    advice wanted

Are they coming home to an empty loft? Have a couple of hungry pigeons walking about the garden if trapping through open doors or if trapping through a trap have some pigeons inside the loft.

  21. Wednesday 13 August 2008 pigeonracing - epetition reply We received a petition asking: “We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to officially recognise pigeon racing as a sport.” Details of Petition: “Pigeon Racing is not currently classed as a sport. I wrote to Mr Blair a few years back now, and didn’t have much of a response. Keeping racing pigeons, and preparing them for a race takes a lot of time and effort by the owner / keeper of the pigeons. So why Pigeon Racing can’t be classed as a sport is beyond me. Please could you take a close look at this, and hopefully change the way it stands now. Thanks.” · Read the petition · Petitions homepage Read the Government’s response Decisions on whether particular activities and pastimes should be recognised as sports are made by unanimous agreement between the home country sports councils, and it would be inappropriate for Government to intervene in this matter. Any decisions to fund recognised sports are made by the individual home country sports councils. In the first instance, I would recommend a submission to the relevant sports council, outlining the case for recognising pigeon racing. The sports council will be able to provide information on the criteria for recognition of an activity as a sport. In this instance they can be contacted at: Sports Council for Wales Sophia Gardens Cardiff CF11 9SW Tel: 0845 045 0904 Fax: (0845) 846 0014 E-mail: scw@scw.org.uk The other Sports Councils are: Sport England 3rd Floor Victoria House Bloomsbury Square London WC1B 4SE Tel: 020 7273 1551 Fax: 020 7383 5740 Email: info@sportengland.org Irish Sports Council Sport Northern Ireland House of Sport 2a Upper Malone Road Belfast BT9 5LA Tel: 028 90 381222 Fax: 028 90 682757 E-mail: info@sportni.net sportscotland Caledonia House South Gyle Edinburgh EH12 9DQ Scotland Tel 0131 317 7200 Fax 0131 317 7202 Email - library@sportscotland.org.uk
  22. No one ever heard/read a convoyers report where the birds split into two batches?
  23. Two sides to a transporter, one side the pigeons come out say into the wind which means they'll gain height quicker than the other side who'll have to come out then turn into the wind to do same.
  24. I believe the way the transporter is positioned at time of liberation has more bearing on the outcome of the race.
  25. Perhaps a maximum asking price of £25 a pigeon, should keep most of the sharks away.
