Its great news that we can channel fly again but i think people should spare a thought for the pigeons and what may well happen in the next 3 weeks. Ive been flying the channel, 10 times a year for the last 25 years (since i was 8) and my experience has tought me that regardless of the racepoint or distance whether it be Piccauville or Pau a pigeon has to be prepared in the correct way to fly the channel. It concerns me that if flyers on Mass send thousands of pigeon across the water next week who have only been down the leg or been flying North it will be a disaster and if it is and returns are very poor dont be suprised if DEFRA kick off again. Many people have been flying different systems because of the short race points which may well result in pigeons being kept short, also what sort of hours on the wing have they had? Add to this the large jumps in mileage they will recieve over the next 3 weeks! I know pigeons can be jumped but remember every pigeon on the transporter will be in the same boat. The channel and our pigeons need to be respected so i hope thats remembered before pigeons are jumped hundreds of miles onto a different line. Stuart

Bart Clashing only happens when flocks of pigeons are flying at 90 degree to each other. Pigeons flying in oposite direction often fly at differents hieghts because of the wind and approach and pass each other so quick they dont have chance to engage. However if pigeon approuch from the side (East to West) they find it very hard to avoid each other, this is why the Welsh study the south coast liberations so carefully!! Regards Stuart P.S. I need to go to church on sundays!

Yes but lets think the pigeons, we have changed them once and now were looking to send them 300mile back the other way? My birds are very good racers but they are not machines and i will not treat them this way!!!! Stuart

The CSCFC has made desicion to cancel the Perth race and hold a Cholet race which is 300 miles to my loft. What bothers me is how many fanciers within the South West are in a position to send there pigeon across the water. Like many fanciers our pigeons have already flown 300 miles on the North and are now being prepared for Thurso and Fraserbrugh. I cant see the point in now turning round in week and further more will they turn. Many people who are flying North had planed to send to Perth and remember these were the fanciers who supported the first race are now left high and dry with nowhere to send. We all want to fly south thats why we are in South Road clubs but is it right to just forget about those who have made the effort to turn there birds. Stuart

Little Darling of S V Miles was 1st Club 1st WOESRC Dax 520mls 1800b and then the year after she was 1st Sect 1st Open NFC Pau 540miles 5400b and she bred 3 x 1st Dax/Marmande Combine winners and many more. They tell me that Channel Queen of Mike Youngs was a pretty specail hen and dont Natrix of S G Biss. Morning Glory 2 x 2nd NFC Pau. At middle distance Rod Baxters De Centenary and Beths Boy have pretty specail racing records across the pond! But to me the best pigeon that ever raced into this country was the Legend of Brian Sheppard and to think he was stopped at 2 Year old. A dream pigeon that got the dream result!!!!! Stuart

From a personnel point of veiw i would rate Sam and Roly Fears acheivements higher than the great Sam Biss (and i agree he was a great) due soley to the small amount of pigeons kepted and sent!!!! There astonishing ability at distance racing was something Sam Biss reconised as he visited there lofts to collect birds year after year!!!!!! In terms of breeding, Mr & Mrs Nethercott, Eric Fox, David Bacon, Eric Cannon, S V Miles, Mike Young, K Hines, Mr & Mrs Bates, S G BISS, J T Ellis, Brooks Bros have all had outstanding success with the Fear Bros blood and that doesnt include the many good pigeons supplied from S G Biss from Fears blood. Mike who do you think is the best sprinter the UK has ever seen? Ron Williamson, Len Hopton, Beardsmore, Walton, CWLG, Spence Nichols, B Kaid, Darlington??? Just guessing!!!, This one would have to be your call!!!!!!! Stuart P.S Chris, me too and i thought i was the youngest!!!

For pure long distance to a back garden loft Fear Brothers of Clandown, won 1st Pau NFC and 1st Palomas BBC on the same day, these two pigeons were the cornerstone of S G Biss success. They also won 1st CSCFC Pau plus many many more top prizes from the long end. Stuart

Mate In 2003 i gave up pigeons because of family reasons and to be honest for the first 12 months i thought it was the best desicion i ever made, no getting up early, no worries about holidays, holdovers, weekends etc. But when the following spring came around i started to greave for them to the point where i would do anything to have my birds and my lofts back! I now fly in partnership which helps but i will build it all back up one day soon and call it my own!!!! Stuart
