BANDIT, SORRY TO HERE ABOUT ALL THE LOSSES MATE, WE KNOW HOW YOU ARE FEELING UP HERE IN CUMBRIA, AS LINDSAY AS ALREADY SAID, PEOPLE FINISHED RACING OLD BIRDS BECAUSE OF A STUPID DECISION TO LIBERATE WHEN THOUSANDS OF BIRDS WOULD BE GOING OVER US, A MEETING AS BEEN CALLED FOR WEDNESDAY NIGHT TO HOPEFULLY GET THIS SHAMBLES SORTED OUT,YOU TRY TO DO YOUR BEST YOU CAN ALL WINTER WITH YOUR BIRDS THEN THIS HAPPENS, MAKES YOU WONDER IF THEY ARE WORTH ALL THE BOTHER. :-/ :-/
  8. doxy-t mate Respiratory infections are treated with antibiotics. No one wants to give their birds antibiotics unless it is really necessary and we certainly don’t want to give antibiotics (or any drug for that matter) that would put the team off form. Most antibiotic preparations available to treat respiratory infection are blends of doxycycline, tylosin and spiramycin (also called suanovil). Doxycycline is the antibiotic of choice for Chlamydia, tylosin is the antibiotic of choice for mycoplasma and spiramycin is commonly used to treat secondary bacterial infection. At my clinic we supply all of these antibiotics in various combinations. “D†is straight doxycycline, “D-T†is a blend of doxycycline and tylosin, “R†is doxycycline and spiramycin and “TV†is a triple blend of doxycycline, tylosin and spiramycin. Which one is actually prescribed depends on the nature of the problem in the loft. Treatment courses are usually 3-7 days and we always recommend that a follow up treatment of a concentrated multistrain avian origin probiotic such as “Probac†is given. This is because all antibiotics cause some disruption of the normal bowel bacteria. These will reestablish in a few days once treatment is withdrawn but of course during racing we want the birds back in form as quickly as possible. Giving “Probac†floods the bowel with good bacteria and reestablishes the normal population promptly. Prompt diagnosis and treatment can often result in a rapid response and quick recover. A delay in effective treatment means that race form and fitness is lost. This means that not only does the respiratory infection have to be brought under control but then fitness be reestablished. The more advanced the respiratory infection is at the start of treatment then the longer it will take to respond. Once the infection is resolves, fitness can then be reestablished, usually within 2-3 weeks.

  13. very poor returns in derwent valley fed cumbria from wollaston today, everybody seems to have lost half there teams, torrential rain, hailstones and very strong winds,a lot of long faces at clock checking tonight and who can blame them with 9 out 30, 12 out of 32, lads finished racing old ones now, myself 14 missing out of 42,same story throughout the fed, we just hope some turn up tomorrow, ( shambles)
  14. the two feds amal, (derwent valley-west cumbria feds) were at wollaston today with the west cumbria convoyer soley in charge of both feds, the convoyer from derwent valley fed would not abide by this ruling and liberated d.v.fed birds at 10 am while west cumbria fed held on as conditions were not right with them eventially making it an holdover, outcome lots of birds missing, peoples season are ruined, and probably the two feds amal in tatters, well i would just like to say to john ellwood d.v.fed convoyer, i hope its your last race as convoyer before many more people leave this sport, very very annoyed. graham and daughters flimby h.s :-/ :-/
