  1. i even thought about this when the convoyer phoned me. Skull
  2. there was no swelling, not a trace of anything wrong!
  3. Hi all Yesterday i noticed one of my birds looking like it had hurt its one foot. I checked it for bruises but could not find something wrong. All were basketed for 140km tos today and after liberation the convoyer phoned me and told me that one of my birds was dead in the basket. After giving me the number i remembered that it was the one with the seemingly sore foot. The other birds came well from the toss, no problems at all. Has anybody got an idea what could have gone wrong with this bird, dying within 24hours? Skull
  4. Thank you! ;D
  5. A friend told me that when you give them Glucose on basketing day they would get more thirsty on race day.
  6. Hi all Will Glucose induce thirst in our pigeons or surpress it? Skull
  7. No problem! Thanks for the reply
  8. Uncle Jack It may be so, but when you tahe them from the nest to enter a race the bird would be under stress and what then? Skull

  10. Uncle Jack What about when one race birds on eggs or babys? If it takes 36hours for them to rectify the feathers one would need to take the bird that you want to race away 3days in advance? Skull

  13. Hi all Today my birds came from a training flight with +- 1000 birds. They did well. When i finished feeding them i noticed one looking a bit off. When i checked the mouth, it had canker and i immediatly removed it to a confinement and gave it a Canker Tablet which concist out of 100mg Metronidazole. My birds havent received any medication up to now. My Questions: 1. Should i treat the whole flock now for canker? 2. What am i to do from now on? Skull
  14. could you please elaborate on this. I have heard about the Vit D and Sun story, but never realy understood it? Skull
  15. you are not paying attention in the class my friend , its not my birds and i have never had it happened to my birds in the 18years i am flying. A fellow fancier told me this and i did not know what he was talking about, i have never experienced this. grit and minerals are only given once a week to my birds. Skull
  16. Yes did get the main gist wrong.... I like you are a none believer. Pigeons - like must creatures are very resiliant. And do recover naturally very quickly. Indeed am suprised even more that some feel the need to applied before a race - tosses next I presume :-/ - However what part of the makeup - if any - is needed to be replaced would I feel take a very lot of scientific resauces to find out - way above what the norm Vet even has at hand .... yet some just apply willy nily regardless :-/ :-/ Rest and fresh air fresh feed and water is by far a better, and more sensible way to go surely. Certainly would do any harm.... Further let me say, that I believe greatly that when the cup is brimful.... then no more can be added to it regardless. Extra just passes through .... and then for instance we have the question popping up constantly 'Birds Droppings are .................' streauth :-/. I give electrolytes only on the day after they returned from a race BECAUSE, 1. Some say its good for them? 2. Some say its bad for them? So a Sunday was the only day that i could figure out wont harm them in any way when i give it to them. LOL Skull
  17. I think that they loose a fair amount of salts when they are VOMITING,FEEDING the babys! Skull
