Having been to Blackpool this year, and through talking to fanciers there, and also reading posts on here and other sites, there seems to be some who feel that Blackpool was a disappointment this year, and is slowly getting worse each year. For those of you who attended, what was your impression of the show this year? And if you were disappointed, why? Personally, once again I enjoyed my weekend, how ever, I did feel there were not so many stalls in the winter gardens this year. Thank You

The victim's family has been informed of the death. A spokesman for Task Force Helmand said the soldier was helping "to provide a safe and secure environment for the local population, when he was hit by an explosion" A total of 350 UK military personnel have now died since operations in Afghanistan began in 2001. Some 309 of them were killed as a result of hostile action. A further 41 are known to have died either as a result of illness, non-combat injuries or accidents.

A LOFT full of racing pigeons was torched in a deliberate attack on a village allotment. Firefighters from Aston Fire Station were called to the loft, on land off Alexandra Road, Swallownest, at around 3.30am this morning. Although they were able to extinguish the flames the fire was so extensive there was no way of discovering how many birds had been killed. A fire brigade spokesman said: “There was no way of counting the birds. The fire had destroyed so much of the building.” Firefighters attempted to find the owner of the loft while fighting the fire but found the Alexandra Road allotments deserted. The spokesman added: “Someone is going to have a terrible shock when they discover the damage this morning.” Firefighters recorded the incident as “deliberate” and the police have been called in to investigate.
