our y/bs this year have their own loft with aviary at the bottom of the back yard, basicly to harden them up weather wise and give plenty fresh air to be as natural as possible i suppose. my problem is the streetlights are very bright at night, they are roosting around 6 30 and are on the go early morn ,how will this affect moult for later on? we dont want to darken loft up restricting air flow. any comments , they were weaned three wks past so early bred. cheers davy

aye jimmy, good posts, every one of them, i like reading posts from flyers who,s had the doos for as long as yirsel, and your dad, there is allways more info to be learned even after 7 yr racin the doos, its like driving, always something unexpected round the corner,i got my lad lee hooked on the doos when he was 10 by taking a stray home which had roosted on the front bumper of my truck down in wales.ithought it was deadf but no, i fed it broth mix till i got home 6 days later, then my lee took over and then he was hooked, it went on from there, we have had 2 red cards in 6 yrs, he is allways keen and looking for a winner, i think we have crosses with crosses, but since i was affered the job of driver/convoyer for n/scotland fed and lee is 2ndman,the y/birds he has got from good hearted doomen all over our fed will cheer him up no end. in the last 2 yr we have got on board two young lads interested in the doos. its all good stuff, yours davy

your damned right walter, we dont entertain rspb up my way and if any hawks are caught, then they are shifted quick.problem is public dont understand, they think rspb protect all birds. we know they dont so us as fanciers must protect our own. its only right.

YOU CAN TRY OLD CD DISCS TIED ON A STRING ACROSS THE GARDEN TO REFLECT LIGHT OR PAINT A PAIR OF BIG OWL EYES, THAT WORKS OR BETTER STILL STICK TO THE GUN ? BUT HIDE,,
-
no but seriously, the male hawk is normaly up high, but the hen is an ambush hunter, she will glide over fences without being seen, then its too late.SAD BUT TRUE.
-
get a gun but hey :o :odont let anayone see ya???

well, reading these threads is it any wonder we have massive bird losses from racing. if its a willy nilly approatch to vacc as it appears to be. in our club as it is in the whole of the n of scot fed the sec of each club vacc the birds with the member present. it has to be witnessed by club official. its the only way to go.
