  1. Lockerbie: 7 members sent 66 pigeons to Garstang or as one member wrote on his race sheet DEATH VALLEY.
  2. Solway have made a donation to the show I hope other feds do the same.
  3. I have had about 15 stray old birds this season here in Moffat. In each and every case I have tried to contact the fancier (mostly Lanarkshire and Midland, one from the Netherlands). With the exception of two fanciers everyone contacted has said wait a couple of days and chuck them up.I fully understand the cost of retrieving pigeons and I have no judgement to make on anyone. So what I do is put them in a basket and drive up the motorway to Abington and toss them there, not ideal I suppose but it at least gives them a start to get home.
  4. Go for Unikon Lindsay, a great system
  5. I hate to admit to this but I am seriously pessimistic about going up against the RSPB.I have tried it in the past and have spoken at meetings of the Scottish Parliament committees on wildlife and at Dumfries and Galloway planning committee meetings and I have been amazed at the high powered experts and lawyers that the wealth of the RSPB can produce, all of whom can put up a very believable case against the poor pigeon fancier. After you have had several experiences of being patronised and rubbished it is difficult to keep going. The SHU has had many of the same experiences. However I wish the RPRA`s Raptor Alliance all success.
  6. Gentlemen, I urge anyone who is serious in the fight against the raptor population and the role of the RSPB to go and buy a copy of THE Observer Sunday newspaper today. There is an excellent article by Magnus Linklater on the RSPB and its completely irrational defence of birds of prey. The article can be found in the magazine section of the newspaper and it really is an eye opener. On the basis of "know your enemy" I for one will be holding on to this stuff for future reference.
  7. Sent 18 to Stainmore, 173 from Lockerbie, 2857 from Solway.
  8. I saw both the Midland pigeons and the Lanarkshire pigeons both bombing it just over Auchen Castle which is just north of Moffat yesterday morning so at least they got this far without mishap.
  9. Should be Dumfries Flying Club.Secretary D.Owen 01387 265741
  10. Lockerbie has sent 227 pigeons to Stainmore with the Solway Federation.
  11. Well done Steven,congratulations
  12. Changed my mind a wee bit as I saw the shining enthusiastic faces of the youngsters in the teams and also my Danish wife threatened to bash my heid in if I did not cheer the team from Denmark.
  13. Tried my best to enjoy and admire the opening ceremony which I am forced to admit was a lamentable and cringe making failure.
  14. I have got 21 back last one at 7p.m. hope to get more tomorrow, I hate to appear defeatist but I wonder if all this work, expense and effort is only going to feed peregrine falcons.
  15. 27 tossed from 20 miles (fechan) at 10 45 a.m. so far 1.20 p.m. 2 home fear the worst f*****g sick. *

  17. SU08 L 5484 just came in a minute ago (7.55.pm.) in good condition double rung but legs covered in mud.Lovely pigeon
  18. No training today here in Moffat visibility very poor can hardly see the hills for mist at present.
  19. Vry well done Lindsay many congratulations
  20. I agree with the post about the rigidity of the race programmes, they are not cast in stone and should be altered as conditions determine. The Solway Fed. has accepted this by delaying the start of the young bird programme by one week so as to allow fanciers more time to train younsters as training so far has been difficult if not impossible in this atrocious weather.
  21. He has been beaten regretfully, the English rags can go back to slagging him off as a Scotsman , nothing changes. Some want us to stay united to these a.......s.
  22. I got a bird from the Netherlands about three weeks ago, phoned the Dutchman. He said keep it a couple of days and let it go it will fly home ,guess he was a flying Durtchman
  23. Roland you will probably know that our present government has learned the lessons of how to keep the ignorant peasantry in check. They have organised a royal wedding,a diamond jubilee and an £11 billion olympic games all to occupy our minds and prevent unruly behaviour.I hopr Andy Murray does it today for all of the UK and I can go back to my main interest in my old age which is caring for my 50 or so mediocre racing pigeons which give me such joy every day
  24. Andy Murray is a great sportsman and I hope we are all cheering him on tomorrow even though he is a gruff Scotsman who probably graduated from the same charm school as Kenny Dalgleish and Alec Fewrguson
