I think the diagnosis would lead to Canker (Crop Mucosa) however the diagnosis of which strain is prevalent could be anyone of the 57 known varieties. I would treat them for 10 days with a canker treatment that specifically distroyed the "Hexamytosis" variety, whilst on the treatment please remember to remove all access to grit and mineral pots as this would render the treatment as useless. I would also feed small easy to digest grains so that the food is still being able to pass the severely inflamed throat passages enabling the body to derieve energy from the food given. I would not panic too much regards the death of the bird as this was most probably due to the bird slowly starving as food was not able to be digest due to obstruction/inflammation of the birds throat. After treatment 2-3 days of a vitamin in the drinking water then1-2 days on a probiotic, should see the right.Best of luck.RR.

The club funds can then be allocated to prize monies for the Averages winners, best novice performances etc. Its gone on too long for us Secretaries the abuse ends here, if you want the job doing you pay us properly now for our time.Once you hit them hard in their pockets you'll find the abuse stops at once. Its because the startegy for appointing a secretary was they were expected to accept a low honorium and we was made to think the members were doing the new elected secretary a good turn,We now live in the 21st Century and the times have changed the secretaries dictate the price of doing the job.... Why have to feed and clean up behind a dog, they are not the best deterrents to guard your lofts, I've found the best as you put it! "Guard Dogs" are in fact Geese ( usually kept in a trio ) that a boy and two girls, cheap to feed they also keep the grass down and you can have a return when you sell their offspring the following year. Over the years Ive tryed them all, but the best value for money and is trouble free and very easy to manage is the Loft Management System obtained from East Coast Software you can take a look at what your buying by logging onto www.EastCoastSoftware.co.uk or refer to BHW Stud Book 2008 page 445 and see for yourself.Version 8 is the latest and incorporates pictures onto the many different styles of pedigrees also prints race sheets and vaccination sheets. I can see where your coming from, but I dont think you can put youngbird losses down to either one breed/strain or where that strain was bred by or purchased from.It does not matter whether you paid mega bucks for them or they were gifted to you, we in the UK have many contributory factors affecting our youngbirds and this has been going on since the mid 70's all we seem to do is complain about the losses.What we have to start doing is to put investment into the scientific research of the health of our birds and stop giving our monies away to charities each year.Look in your BHW if you don't believe me look at all the top pigeon men calling it a day, lets stop the rot now!before its too late.I leave you with a thought the Belgiums have sponsored the University of Ghent to carry out research in the health of their pigeons, what have the british fanciers? without any shadow of doubt the masserella family have in the past and continue Royto make massive financial outlays to purchase the best pigeons in the world and bring them back to our shores for us the general fancy to acquire stock from them at a moderate cost to enable us to race them. We the fanciers must also realise that the sport and the health of our racing pigeons must be also taken into the equation regards the massive loses that keep on occuring year after year. With the many top class stock birds that louella own, its only a matter of time before the BIG race winners come to the front as we say up north "Blood Will Tell" and funnily enough it always does. Only tried the system once, the first time our loft had the yb sickness we wrongly attributed the darkness to bringing this about.We are going back onto it next year 2009 you cannot live with yb teams that are put onto it.
