    Nest boxes

Flying natural next year my first season with ob,i have nest boxes with plastic widowhood fronts but is it better for me to block up half the nesting box with wood to darken them up so they get more rest when nesting any advice or pics of nesting boxes would be good.

  10. Just a suggestion rock but why dont you invest in some corrugate sheets bit expensive but the amount of times you have to refelt over the years its gotta be worth considering.

  12. Welcome back andre thought i hadnt seen you on here for a while.Sounds like a good idea to me any damp that gets in the loft is going to cause problems and if your birds are locked up for four months then the birds will love acess to a avairy especially on sunny days, just done a small one myself put some pics up soon.
  13. My lofts got vents running the length of the loft you cant have enough in my opinion always plenty of fresh air flowing through birds look well on it.

  18. So many come on saying all you will do is feed the bop if you have them on open hole but for me the proof is there by the numbers i lost when i had them out mornings and afternoon as aposed to the few i have lost since i put them open hole wonder if the guys who come on saying this have ever tried open hole.
  19. Heres mine plus wildlife
  20. Dont have any trouble with the sparrowhawk but the peregrines are a different story but dont see that being there to watch them makes any difference been outside before clapping and jumping up and down like a loony when there being chased and its made no difference when they are in hunting mode theres bugger all you can do.Is the peregrine more or less active during the winter months surely they are not feeding young but i suppose you get the extra numbers with the offspring hunting aswell.
  21. Being a novice IB im finding it tricky sexing them some are easy but others one day i think its a cock and the next i think its a hen when im done training in a couple of weeks im going to weed a few out and split them hoping ive got roughly equal of cocks and hens but im sure ive got more cocks than hens.
  22. Not sure about that pigeonscout when i started in january i let the birds out in the morning and then again in the afternoon and lost loads to the peregrine watching them being chased regular, since i put them on open hole 5 months ago i have only lost one even saw the birds fly directly at two peregrines and go up above them definetly beleive they get streetwise to percy very sceptical about this before i put them on open hole but the proof is there with the numbers just my opinion.
  23. Thanks for the advice forgot to mention 15 of my 32 pigeons are latebreds which i have just started to train so ill split them when i have finished training these in a couple of weeks.
  24. Hi got a 21ft loft 2 8ft sections and a 5ft store which i need to use, ended my first season with 32 pigeons when do i split the cocks and hens up if at all problem is i have more cocks than boxes in ob section.Do i move 12 cocks in my 8ft section by themselves and put the rest of the cocks in my other section with the hens bit confused any advice please.
  25. Hi first season this year had the birds on open hole but what about through the winter is it best to keep them in on the really rough days or just leave them open all winter regardless of the weather any advice please
