  1. Preferably in NE Lancs area but I am prepared to pay postage if not. Thanks
  2. I am wanting a training basket for 12+ birds If you know of one for sale I would be interested. Please IM me. Thanks
  3. Thanks Jimmy.
  4. Thanks for the link Carol, It's great that it will kill slugs - they have been having a veritable feast in our garden, since I got the pigeons and stopped using slug pellets! >
  5. Thanks Showman and Symbro, Only six birds in the loft? :o A lot fewer than I thought! Somewhere I read 1 - 1and 1/2 foot per bird! I never intended keeping as many as 24 in there but, I was thinking about 12 would possibly be ok. : I can see that I shall need a bigger aviary and will probably put in a solid back as Jimmy suggested as we are very exposed to the prevailing wind. I have been sooo concerned about draughts but today when I went to collect my new birds I found that they were living in an aviary and they are in super condition.(or so I'm told ) This is definitely the way to go for me Excuse this silly question - if they are so much better in an aviary why do fanciers go to the expense of a loft? Sue
  6. Certainly does Jimmy. Thanks. Sue
  7. Thanks every one. Your advice has helped a lot. Just one question, Jimmy, you say that you used chicken wire, this would be a less expenive option for me but, I live ajoining fields - will it not carry in disease if field mice get in? :-/
  8. Hi Wynmore, ;D If you read the Avian Flu thread you'll see that a lot of fanciers are recommending keeping the birds in. Good to see you posting. Peckedhen

    Aviary?

My young bird loft is 6'x4'. How many young birds do you think it will it hold? I am thinking of putting an aviary on the side - would pigeons be ok in an aviary if they slept inside the loft? If so, what size mesh would I need and would I need to put a concrete or wood floor in? I don't think there are any rats or foxes near here. :-/
  10. I think it would be best if we all stop feeding the Troll! :-/
  11. Have a great day Speckled. Put your feet up and be pampered.........LOL!
  12. A photo of me Samantha? Do you want to frighten everyone off the board? Here goes - I haven't a close up though (thank goodness! ;D).
  13. Sasha, I have only just got my first pigeons this summer. I got two garden fantails but liked them so much that I got a loft and my first four white Logans I only had them for six days and I left the sputnik open and they escaped! One came back but I don't think the others will now. I shall buy some more next week and be more careful next time! I only want white, no competitions. Do you race successfully?
  14. Hi Sasha, No I want to train them but I'm not racing. Not just yet. These birds are long distance too. Thanks.
  15. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D LOL Peckedhen (female)
  16. Lovely photos and great getting children involved at an early age.
  17. The escaped Logans. Not a very good photo but, I wasn't expecting them to leave so soon! My garden fantail - this is the one that was so ill but he's fine now and very tame.
  18. I've looked at your photo Westy, yes, they look great - just make sure you are never as daft as me and leave the loft open! One of my birds has come back, just as Bruno said, they were flying around and I kept trying to call them down. It didn't trap, it spent the night in our house gutter but then Bruno told me to leave the loft door open and a trail of food leading in and, in it went and onto a perch! One down three to go! 19. Nothing as clever as the previous posts but my old Dad used to say, ' Loose a minute, save a life.' (That was when I was driving anywhere.) Another of his sayings I've tended to heed was, 'If in doubt......Don't' They've served me well enough over the years. Peckedhen
  20. Ditto!
  21. Keep everything crossed for me Bruno. :-/ I'll need it!
  22. Thanks folks. I feel better knowing that !'m not the only one who has lost birds. I wish hubby was as understanding - he's just thinking of his pound notes flying off into the clear blue skies! He says he'll fix ball and chain to my next ones! :
  23. And, I know you're all probably thinking 'STUPID WOMAN' !! That's just how I feel myself, so please don't say it. :B
  24. I am gutted! :'( One moments stupidity...................... I was working on the sputnik, left it open for less than a minute without thinking and my lovely new birds have gone! :'( :'( I'm soo angry with myself as well. > It's unlikely they'll return to their old loft as they were not flown. Please keep your eyes open for me, I've posted the numbers on the Lost Board. :-/
