only members of pentland fed midlothian fed cant recall the other fed it is open to. as for only racing against 181 birds it is very hard to win .never been won by same fancier 2 years running.their was also some birds racing this year that had topped their fed more than ones and never got near result. it takes a pigeon with a bit of gut to race in freezing cold windy snowing conditions.the slowest velosity the race was won in was 561 by the partnership of primrose and bell in 1997.this partnership have won the race the most winning it 3 times.the nearest to doing the double at it was peter (Santa Claus)Melville 2001 1st 2nd 3rd 2002 2nd 3rd 2004 1st 2nd .this is the only race Peter races his birds in. the velosity is near double last year won with yearling hen velosity 727 compared to this years 1415 velosity.

this is cruel race for yb,s .hope some more turn up but in reality how many have flow their hearts out over open water dropped exhausted and drowned.

yes the race was flown on dec 18th .33 lofts sent 181 birds. the prize money and pool money raced for was £5322.50 plus other prizes . birds liberated at 9.30 am. in to a light south east wind. 1st c mcgregor with a yb, this yb was well out on its own flying the 77.442 mile in 1h36min 03 sec velosity 1415.53.winning £537.50 also to record the fastest velosity in the 17 years this race has taken place. 2nd crease a lunn with a yearling winning £548.50 with a velosity of 1246. 3rd mcormack a frazer with a yearling winning £437.50 with a velosity of 1245.28 4th c macgregor with a y/b winning £417.50 with a velosity of 1243.17 5th mccormack a frazer with a 2 year old winning £397.50 with a velosity of 1238.66 6th was ME with my mealy cock winning £327.50 with a velosity of 1232.thats 3 years in a row this good cock has been up near the front paying his way. 7th a young with a yearling winning £162.50 with a velocity of 1231.91 8th a young with a yearling winning £247.50 with a velosity of 1231.72 9th mr a mrs Lindsay with a yearling winning £202.50 with a velosity of 1229.61 10th dg fish with a yb winning £92.50 with a velosity of 1228.99 11th me again with a yearling winning £31.50 with a velosity of 1228.98. this cock was 2nd last year beat by less than a min. biggest prize and pool winner was me winning £959. was it this one loft race that not long ago their was a video of yb,s being attacked by B.O.PS. i hope thay get a good few turn up tommorow.the organizers and the fanciers that are taking part must be gutted. with it being an island race how many of the poor yb,s have made a mistake and flew out to sea.

got 19 hatched lost a few to eggs not hatching due to the freezing weather at time of laying.9 of which are rung and a few to do tommorow.also had a well bred yearling cock who is paired to a very well bred young hen .thinking thay would make a good pair when i decide to put them in to on of the breeding lofts.the hen laid 2 eggs on bottom shelf of the small perch boxes Vere near on the bare wood in the freezing cold.i thought just leave them as each time i was in that secsion very rarely did i see either of them sitting them. i thought their is no chance of them hatching even held them up to sun light and both looked clearish. both hatched 3 days ago so will be keeping yb,s

this is only my opinion if you don,t try broken old birds or yearlings in the 1st year of birds broken to new loft.you then breed of them this year then you breed of them next year to find out when racing some of them are no good. best of luck in your 1st racing season . with a few hard decisions to make best of luck. never added that all birds i broke and raced bred and raised yb,s 1st.

we all race birds differently i started back racing in 09 with birds that i bought at the start of 09 broke them and raced them all o/b races out to eastbourne 384 miles . only sent 6 to eastbourne 3 on result.birds also won gold cup in fed best performance in fed best performance by a yearling at s.n.f.c. races in fed also topped fed by 40 plus mins from eastbourne. so you can get good results from broken pigeons in the 1st year. i was not brave enough or maybe i was wise enough not to send them over the water .
