if it was hawk gets drowned by magpie the this thread would have had a lot more views with more happy fanciers myself included

if you keep 100 birds 2% = 2 birds in the 100 if that is the case with your lofts .i strongly suggest you take up another hobby.or acquire better race birds
-
in your loft what percent of your birds would you class as good birds. the reson i ask as some of the members have put up a VERY LOW percent of good birds in their loft saying the rest are crap. it takes a good bird to win club a better bird to score in fed and better yet to score at national level . or am i wrong in this

you are right their vinnie the way to change opinion is to teach the young kids about racing pigeons while they are young.

to remove some of the public's view on pigeons classed as flying rats. most of s have kids or grand kids that are at primary school level. contact the local school explain to the head master of the school you would like to do a talk a bout racing pigeons now and when they where saving soldiers lives in the world wars.the pigeon Sher a,Mei comes to mind (spelling wrong i think) in the talk you can also point out how many get killed by bops. how far your birds race to get home. take along one or 2 nice coloured birds not for getting your plain bb or checkers. some schools might but all should ask the person that is doing the talk if the school can put their name through the disclosure Scotland act.(that is up hear don,t know about down south) it make sure no weirdos get it to the school. talk done well kids tell mum and dad about pigeons saving lives racing 100,s of miles. also tell them that a lot are getting killed daily by bops. if you want to change minds start with the young. it would take a 5 min phone call to school or short visit and 1 hour or so telling the kids. you never know you might get one or two new young fanciers as well we all know our sport hobby needs them.

pouters/horsemen 1 week running in hood with one of your own birds of opposite sex tumblers/rollers/modenas /fantails /nuns /ect 3 weeks looking out daily from a wire cage. with your tumblers/modenas ect let the cock bird out 1st with the hens in wire cage so as the birds know their hens are their. this is only my opinion. pouters horsemen let both out after a week

My mrs calls my lot flying rats.she i the first one with her hand out when they win money.she is also the first one to go mental if i don,t shut the lofts up properly in winter.as see says it is a shame for then they will be cold .you should put a heater in the loft for them to keep warm. :)

A interesting topic selling birds in your area
blaz replied to Jeams's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
my only rule when giving birds this year to friends in my area is that none of them are raced in the xmus race this year. it has never been won 2 years on the trot by the same person . i will be giving it a try i would hate to be beat this year by a bird i have given away.(thats if my lot are good enough to get near the front) as for giving my best away i don,t have a problem with that .last year i gave away yb,s from birds bred from 1st open winners inland national ticket winners also from birds with good fed tickets and multiple 1st club tickets. also 3 pair of good producing stock birds just to help the fancier young or old to maybe get a winner or two from them . a lot of which went to fanciers on hear that i don,t know but i do know they had a bad season last year. i also had 3 young fanciers last year accompanied with their dads.when they went in to loft they where told take what you like -
A interesting topic selling birds in your area
blaz replied to Jeams's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
i won,t sell any of my birds to local fanciers .as when you sell then they can enter their birds in any of the races we have.will give yb,s to the best of my ability to friends and some of the young up and coming newbies.i have only 14 yb,s for myself up till now of my 1st round my 2nd round all of which are going out to the members that bought my yb,s at charity sale also to members that i said i would breed yb,s for.i think 30 yb,s all in going out in the next 3 to 4 weeks or so,all to fanciers out with my area.any one getting yb,s in my area from me i have rules to which race these birds cant go to this year only. nothing worse than aiming for a race only to find jo blggs won it with one of the birds you gifted him. to member that are getting birds from me that they bought at charity sales .the best tip i can give you is patients you will get good birds from better birds with a bit of patients. -
good on you mate
-
that would proberly have been my birds ;D ;D thanks for the apology

as we all know racing pigeons are the athletes of the bird keeping word. if they did take race pigeons from a fancier what would they do with them keep them cadged for the rest of their life.now that would be cruel.as for them saying mike Tyson has been cruel to his birds i very much doubt it .through all his boxing and troubles his love for his birds is still there as it was their before boxing and his troubles and will be their long after.if he was a goody two shoes with no former troubles just his boxing he would not be mentioned by PETA.

best of luck with it hope it is a success.

if your final race was north to south i would be up for it
