  1. Hi all, I recently shared my pigeons with the 4th and 6th grade classes and North River School. The kids really enjoyed the experience and showed their thanks with letters and pictures. I just wanted to post them here because I was so proud and happy to recieve them. I thought the kids would also enjoy seeing them on the internet. I also thought when they visit to see their work posted they might even ask a few questions. And I think they will be surprised to see how world wide our sport of racing pigeons is. The whole download and upload, changeing file extensions and resizing may take me a few days to get them all posted. Thank You for letting me share. Yours in the sport. Carol Fitzpatrick
  2. What wonderful news! Hardly time for them to mourn the loses with such good family, friends, and fellow pigeon people. Very Happy for them! Carol

  4. :)Thanks
  5. Very good advice from everyone! I would just add don't keep getting lots of birds from everywhere. Test what you have before getting more and keep good records so you know what you have.
  6. I have a question, do we nominate birds and designate the race station for the 200 mile challenge before hand or do we just pick the best from our results after they have raced and submit? Carol
  7. I commented that I didn't know how you did all that you do and you replied that it keeps you out of trouble.
  8. I sent you an email, You replied to it. I am Blue Moon Loft my email is mspigeon@hotmail.com. I didn't send the bird #'s, just my loft name etc. Carol
  9. Hi Linda, Didn't you get mind? Carol

  12. Ok Linda! Thanks again! Maybe we will have to have a drive down your way. Where do you live exactly, is it a LONG drive? Carol
  13. Do you have a date in mind Linda? Mine is not ready to go just yet. Thanks for the offer. Carol
  14. I had a hen lay three eggs this year as well, first time I ever seen this. But the third egg was very tiny. Carol
  15. I'm a bit confused... It's the parents that have the diarrhea isn't it?
  16. I also appreciate it, I am another one that just does not have the time to wade through the other 30 some page thread on the bird flu. This caught my eye and brought me up to date. Thanks Mike! Carol
  17. Just viewed this post! I'm in shock, can't even imagine the sorrow and anger felt by the owners. What a horrible nightmare! Hope we can help in some way. Carol

    PEDIGREES

The last bird I bought came with a stack of diplomas and the owner told me it's strain and heritage. That meant more to me than a pedigree.

    Rainwater

Thats what I use. Rain water in one loft and spring water in the other. Don't see any differance one way or the other between them. I would think rain water to be more beneficial than say city water with additives.
  21. I would like to Snowy and have tried but I have a dial up connection and uploading and downloading is very VERY slow. Sometimes it just times out and I have to start all over, I already waste enough of the day in front of the computer!!! And it's getting busy in the loft. I have 36 Yb's weaned and in the YB loft to work with, start training OB's and keeping all the lofts and breeding pens cleaned and babies in nest clean and banded and on and on... Bit I LOVE IT!
  22. I think you could get free printed info from the AU as well as info on line, they also have a page just for kids called Kids Corner. http://www.pigeon.org/index.html
  23. What could possibly be wrong with Beef Oxo cubes???? Thanks for the info on cresote. I guess then when I'm smelling it on a sunny in the barn, because the uprights have been treated with it, it is getting rid of the bugs about. Carol
  24. Dr Colin Walker mentions persistent feather sheaths and abnormal feather production in his book "The Flying Vet's Pigeon Health Management" on page 67. It can be caused by Circo virus but yours does NOT look like it Peckedhen because there is usually also blood in the shaft and feather follicles are sometimes inflamed. And I'm certain there would be other symptoms if it were a virus. We have had persistant feather quills on a baby once or twice, didn't cull them, but don't recall they did anything racing either.
