  1. Right on Carl!!!! It sounds exactly like what I have been reading in Dr Colin Walkers's book "The Flying Vet's Pigeon Health Management" Out of 12 top winning flyers ihe nterviewed 11 of the 12 regularly use anti canker meds and 10 regularly treat for respiratory infection. 5 of the 12 regularly use probiotics and 2 use apple cider vinegar. 4 lofts regularly treat for coccidia and 2 treat for coccidia only if dectected by microscope. 6 regularly worm before and or durring season and others treated only if microscope detected. 6 used multivitamins regularly and four use pink mineral grit. 5 lofts had samples reglarly tested or had own microscope and 7 treateded as a matter of routine. 2 lofts did not provide grit or any calcium supplement durring the entire season. One loft used no medication apart from worming before the season.
  2. Our proposed schedule for YB's is: 85mi, 125mi, 200mi, 125mi, 300mi, 125mi, ?, 200mi, ? The two ? are up fro debate. Carol

  6. I agree with you Maverick. Sure glad I wasn't involved... I n fact I wrote CLOCKMAN and told him she wasn't going to like this much.
  7. Our club went with Unikon. Been useing it for two seasons now. We all love it. Even the ones that drug their feet and didn't want to change all love it now too. I am race secretary and it was a lot of new stuff to learn and there is still a few bugs to work out useing it with our race results program. But I am very satisfied. They also have great people to call for assistance. My only complaint is the cost of the chip bands. But I just heard that someone is makeing a universal band that will take the place of both club band and chip band. Has anyone heard of such a thing and the details like cost and where to buy? Carol
  8. PS: I don't think I want "Blue with spread factor" engraved on my champion bird award. LOL
  9. Someone on another list told me that there is only 3 colors genetically speaking, ash red, blue and brown. They said that every pigeon color we see is one of these that is genetically modified by one or more genes or not. SO for instance my black is actually a blue with "spread factor". The bar color on the tail has spread over the whole pigeon makeing it look black but genetically speaking it is a blue. I'm not sure about the white birds, but I would guess it could come from a number of combinations depending on the genetics of it's family. Very complicated if you ask me. Carol

  15. It is a funny bird to say the least. Every Wednesday durring the YB season I trained the team out to about 75 miles way to the west, right on the coast, as my birds need to break to the west. This bird would always take an extra day to come home. There was no physical reason so I shipped it every Friday and it won every race I entered it in.
  16. I just wondered if someone might be able to explain hows come there is only 3 colors of pigeons. I recently was showing a photo of my 2005 champion YB black cock to a fellow flyer. He told me there is no such thing as a black pigeon as there is only three colors. I assume he is speaking of genetics. Can anyone explain. Carol

    tic beans

I can't really comment on feeding only beans as I have never done it. But I would certainly worry that the birds are getting all they need as I always figured variety was the best. Feeding variety not only to my pigeons but also to all my pets and myself. Seems like a better way to ensure all the vitamins and minerals etc are gotten.

    Our Koi Pond

Cool, yes I understand it's filtered and recycled. So is the creek you speak of your little man made creek or a natural creek? I would love to build something similar but the creeks running through my property are not year round. But if the same water is recycled and just in need of a freshening now and then, I got it made!

    wear masks

I tend to wear mine more in the summer when it is drier and dustyer. Right now we are having record rainfall in an already wet part of the country. Just cleaned and theres nothin to breath in out there.
  23. When I do all that basket training I also teach them to eat and drink from the crate. So when race season comes they know how to do it.
  24. Couldn't agree with you more Chatrace and Swilcox. Carol
  25. Thanks Speight, Janssen, Gurnay, and HVR
