Can some tell me exactly what I should be asking a vet for requiring a vet visit for channel racing. I was away to start phoning round to see if I could get a deal if the vet could possibly to a group booking. I'm just not sure what I'm asking for and pretty sure the vets won't know . Any advice would be appreciated

Cheers for the support shown so far on here and by pm. My reason of thinking behind the sale is if costs keep rising the way things are at present some pensioners will have to pack their doos in which would devastating hopefully the sale will go a long way to helping fed costs. Happy to let everyone know I've Booked the Deveronside social club for 16th of April so we can have a young bird sale to raise money for the North of Scotland federation. Like most feds it's been a tough couple seasons and with the cost of living increasing all the time it would be good to raise some cash to help with running costs of the Federation as we used to do previously. I miss the old style sales I am aware that there is more overheads but its also a good chance to meet up prior to racing commencing and have a bit of banter rather than arguing which happens at meetings. Please could anyone willing to donate get in touch please as I don't want to go round begging for birds. Its for the good of our Fed and hopefully yous will support it. Anyone is welcome to donate and I know our members have donated to other feds and good causes in the past. If yous can't make the sale will do my best to organise collection of birds. I will be heading to club at 10am to set up,if donors could arrive from 11 to put birds in cages for viewing. Teas coffee sandwiches and sausage rolls will be served 12:30ish free of charge with sale starting shortly after. Made the decision not to go ahead next year with my one loft race as I've still a lot of things to iron out before expecting fanciers to part with their hard earned cash. Hopefully over the course of next year I will get everything in place to get up and running for 2024 thanks

Cheers yes the location is beautiful and love working there. Its a Hay castle unfortunately not one of my ancestors but sometimes a pretend it's mine all the same haha 😅 and aye your right it would be great to have 2 one lofts in Scotland. I'm sure Lee will make a go of his as well. He's a forward thinking fancier and not too far from me sure we will help each other out over the season

Thanks for taking the time to give me such a thorough response. Yes I can see your point and having thought it over probably best I didn't go in the same lorry as fed no point in leaving anything to chance. The birds welfare is my number 1 priority. That the reason I'm only taking in 650 birds. The loft is 112 feet in total with at least 8 sections. Which includes quarantine sections. Alex also came up with the idea of having cameras in the loft so if in the morning I go in and there is loose droppings I can check back the cameras and identify the bird and remove it just incase. And with a avairy running the full length and vents in roof im planning giving them the best chance possible to stay healthy. I also possibly have someone lined up to test the birds regularly. I think I should look into how the one lofts you mention operate for some guidance. Thankyou Glen

And I'll take it on board yes I've a long way to go so possibly get everything up and running and have a wee latebred one just to get into swing of things. Possibly ilk maybe buy my own transporter and let the fed borrow it to save on fuel cost. Just trying to see what the options are. Can you see any possible positives George ?

Would cross the distance side of it after we know race programme. I doubt the fed would only go 150 miles but i could be wrong. What was our furthest young bird race this year? Would be longest 2 races as the fed covers it's self for the rest. Yes I would join as a full member so the fed benefits as much as possible. Not everyone in the pigeon game is out for themselves. Would even hire the lorry so fed got an extra income if need be. I am thinking I might wait to 2024 reason being I could spend next year getting everything in place so it ain't so much a rush

Planning entering any one loft races yourself next year George?

Hi George. I was going to buy a trailer for training and use for first couple races. Then I've a proposal in with the fed to transport my birds to the longest races. The lorry is going down the road half empty and thought it would be a good way for the fed to benefit also. They would be well looked after and would be liberated separately to the federation birds. The loft is 7 miles from my house(do you think this is a problem?) which isn't ideal but the benefits of offering entrants a class venue where they can make a holiday off it out weighs me running back and fore. As for prize money I have it all written down at home but I'm currently at work down at the castle. I'll check when I'm home.

Proud to announce I will be running a one loft race next year. Always thought Scotland needed one and now you will have 2. It's been a long time in getting to the stage I am at and have a great venue for the event at Delgatie castle between Banff and Turriff. Its a Clan Hay Castle and l love doing jobs there and if I can combine my 2 passions racing pigeons and working at Delgatie castle I'll be living the dream. I have been given to go ahead to start making plans so just wanted to share my excitement. I firmly belive if your in pigeons to make money your in it for the wrong reasons hence I have ONLY ever sold birds for charities or good causes. I ain't in it for the cash and aim to bring fun to our sport. Hopefully I can raise a bit of money for the castle on top of offering great prize money to my competitors. There is plenty accommodation at the castle along with a private fishing so come and make a holiday of it. More details to follow shortly. Thanks Ryan Hay

I'm happy with the result. Had some very fast velocities up the west so don't see why 2 birds couldn't be out infront. Club stretchs from Inverness to Banff so they will have different routes home. West's turn yesterday last week it was mine in the east. Let the lad enjoy his victory

Well done carlton on winning the race and John and neil who got a share of the prize pot. And well done lee for organising and offering something diffrent. Really enjoyed it great returns and velocities. Nothing like what the scaremongering would have you believe. Best of luck with going forward . Unfortunately I won't be joining next year just too much other commitments and running about all over the place at the weekends but will definitely be re joining in the future. When I first started with doos going to sales and shows Dougie was always ine of the lads that would come up for a blether and encourage me and give me a few tips. Genuine good lad. Gutted for the family

Would just like to thank pigeonbasics for allowing me to sell a few doos on the site. It gave me enough cash to buy the kids in my Adaptive sports club some strips to make then feel part of a team. Even managed to buy one for myself. Thanks again PB

Can honestly say thats my best ever young bird race in over 20 years. Not for the reason I won that's irrelevant but for the fact the way they came bombing in. Looking forward to next week

I have bred a round of latebreds (18) in total. Was planning giving some to fellow fanciers and the rest I was going to sell to raise some money for charity. The problem is I've lost my book that I wrote the numbers down on so now I don't know what is what. I'm gutted as I have just started up a sports club for kids with disabilities as there wasn't anything in the area. We've had a great response and have had 2 sessions so far and really enjoying it. I was planning using the money to buy the kids a strip or training kit so they feel part of the team. These birds should of been gone last week but was always hoping my book would turn up. Anyways what I've decided to do is if anyone is interested and are confident of picking a good doo. Come round to mine and for a donation you can select your own. I also have loads of floor grills wooden and galvanised steel if anyone is interested also a donation would be greatly appreciated. Some of the bbirds had paired for example.
