  1. dont think im being funny mate , as i have a theory , well my dog a german shepherd is out the back with the birds when they are out every time , and i have never had a hawk strike at the loft , but my pal down the road about 400yrds gets hit all the time WHY? he has not got a dog ,a friend across the water in alexandria club had a jack russell dog in his compound for years no hawk strikes in all that time, it had to get put down and within 2/3 weeks he had a bird killed by a sparrowhawk, i think the hawk comes past to survey they area and see's the dog and thinks hey if i hit one of those doo's and land in that garden that dog might get me and does'nt bother and goes to an easier prey, just my theory.
  2. have any of you got a dog?
  3. thanx guys i'll post again once she's down this round so fingers crossed.
  4. i have had her separate from her cock for a week and let her back in yesterday, she's paired to one of my black of dromore stock cocks , who's 13 yr old trying to put a bit of vigour into the youngsters with her being a yearling , and she is an absolute cracker , she has everthing i look for in a long distance bird , with a great pedigree and all
  5. the last egg she laid looked like a hairworm egg/lemon (the best way i could describe it ) egg shaped and on the ends like a bit of soft skin dangled off it
  6. I HAVE JUST BOUGHT IT FOR stock(sorryfor cap lock) paid a few quid and all ,it was through the moult when i got her she was early bred and kept in an aviary and within a month of getting her i broke her without pairing her up , stayed out one night and back in the next morning.
  7. MAKE MORE MONEY FROM THIS THAN WINNING THE LOTTERY(AND A ROLLOVER AT THAT)
  8. i have a yearling hen that laid a rubber egg 1st round (just one egg) let it sit a week then lifted it away to put it back down, after 8/9 days laid a rubber egg again then within the hour laid another rubber egg. they have grit minerals pickstones are out just about every day so have access to the the garden (picking around) i have the odd yearling laying a rubber egg maybe its 1st ever egg but this baffles me , never had anything like this in 32 years ANY IDEAS?
  9. you thinkin of selling your body there derick?

  11. WHAT NO TIME WITH YOUR BIRDS TUT TUT ;)well im working sat morn rest of day cleaning out lofts ,drinking tea/coffee then maybe clean lofts again, saturday night hope the wifes up for it ,not that you dirty beggers , a long walk with our german sheppherd dog.Sunday up early birds out clean out bath for birds (very hot) ,leave them out for a few hours , then let out my old/yearlings that arnt paired up yet bath them with fresh very hot water clean them out /same again with the hens that arnt paired, watch the teddy bears win the first bit of silver ware of the season , same at night long walk with dog, then bed . WORK ON MONDAY AGAIN (THAT WAS A QUICK WEEKEND LOL)
  12. you should brush in the loft powder to the damp patches and brush up any left overs and either throw it out or keep and use next time , leave none for the birds to eat, i give my birds grit /pickstones/minerals you name it and they still eat soil out the garden , so dont worry too much about that, hope this helps.
  13. maybe if you took a one off (12 and 11)you might get in somwhere derick ;) ;)
  14. pull that heid oot mate .
  15. i agree with you joe to some extent , firstly (hotrod) my name is STUART MULLAN FROM PORT GLASGOW, i have raced pigeons for 32 years flying in a club with 19/20 members to start off then they dwindled away to eventually 5 , but most weeks one/two/three of the five was either topping the fed or very close to topping the fed . i have topped that fed from 60-543 miles on numerous ocasions , now for four years im in a new club with 21 members and a new fed and have topped the fed 4/5 times from 90-496 miles all in all i have won around 130 races with over 200 1st prizes(as in 1st club 1st fed as 2 first prizes), as you say joe you can only beat the ones you fly against, big club/ wee club, but fed results are a more fairer way to judge a good flyer , IF you win /do well in sprint races great for advice for short races if you do well at the distance then same again, if you do well in youngbirds same again .SOME members have stated that certain clubs have big numbers but other smaller clubs beat them week in week out, so fed results or combine results would do , even if you dont win races but breed a lot of winners for others then you are a master breeder, a lot of different cattegories of successful fanciers out there.I would say i could give out advice to novices , but believe me i'm still learning new things all the time , and if you asked the most successful fanciers out there they would say the same (if they were honest about it)
  16. i had my youngsters on them last year at about 15/20% with a mixture ,although i never raced them they flew very well about the loft 2 hrs -2.5 hrs a night every night from mid june till start august, when i went on holiday for a fortnight , i will definately be feeding them again this year WELL PLEASED WITH THEM ,as for layers pellets are they no full of antibiotics ?
