  3. Picked this up off another non UK. pigeon site. Thanks to my mate Des. Received this from a friend in America it was posted on the American Racing Pigeon Union website Hi Folks, Can the news get any better for our sport First we had all the PETA “investigations†and now I spotted this gem on the AU site. Tim Skalland HR 669 - Your Action is Needed! We have received information regarding proposed HR 669 and are encouraging members to voice opposition. HR 669 bans import, export, transport, breeding, sale or barter of ALL nonnative species unless they are placed on an Approved List established by the USFWS (US Fish & Wildlife Service). Reptiles, small pet mammals, ornamental aquarium fish, and many pet birds are nonnative species. As such, they would be considered illegal under this act. Any company manufacturing or selling product for these pet species would be affected by this act. HR 669 was introduced by Del Madeleine Bordallo of Guam, the Chair of the Subcommittee of Insular Affairs, Oceans and Wildlife of the House Natural Resources Committee with the purpose of preventing the import of nonnative species which might be harmful to humans and to the environment or a nuisance to agriculture or horticulture. To view HR 669, go to http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?dbname=111_cong_bills&docid=f:h669ih.txt.pdf While protecting the environment is important, the current bill does not offer the best solution. NAIA has a very helpful tool on their site to assist with submitting letters and email. See the link below. PLEASE CONTACT THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES and voice your opinion. Send faxes, and emails and call your Congressperson. The hearing for HR 669 will be held on April 22, so please act fast. To submit comments, go to http://capwiz.com/naiatrust/issues/alert/?alertid=13098456 From those informed racing pigeons would come under the umbrella of pet birds are nonnative species, if this law gets through it will stop racing pigeons as a hobby. This is also on the same thread posted by another fancier. According to the Dixie Classic organisation in Atlanta Georgia - the PETA inquiry originated from a complaint by a disgrunted fancier in Oklahoma to the local constabulary regarding the gambling situation which is apparently (according to the person who filed the complaint) ruining the sport in the US. Apparently the amount of money this person quoted as being gambling money is quite a sum and as a result PETA have labelled it illegal. The Dixie guys have scoffed at the complaint - stating it was nothing more than a witch hunt and advised PETA to get the hell out of the sport - their interference in a sport they know little about was not wanted and would go nowhere. It is the intention of the AU and its membership to take this to the highest court in an effort to put PETA to rest once and for all. Good luck to them for sure !!!! There's always some plonker wanting to **** things up for pigeon men and women. Lindsay
