No ! Not unless other parent carries chocolate as its a reccesive gene both parents need to be chocolate or carry chocolate or one visual and one carrier
-
Ash red check paired to black is also a sex linked mating so the black series birds will be the opposite sex to the parent black likewise with the red check plus the other genes in the mix
-
Put in search dhd24.com and you will find a website in germany that has all kinds of fancy pigeons sometimes there are some on there but failing that you could possibly use a flying tippler in the desired colour
-
Why dont you breed a round of youngsters and fly them sounds like their set in their ways bad habits if you start again with new birds they wont have any bad habits dont give up if its something you want keep going dont be beaten by the birds once you get things right you should have hours of enjoyment get in touch with aerc get a book theres plenty on market try veronica mayhew think her address is trewena behoes lane woodcote reading dont give up
-
I dont fly off tic beans these are heavy feed and some say they keep them low I fly off mainly wheat but if they go too high or fly too long I tafe some wheat out and put some barley in or just cut the wheat down theres a new school of thought that you shoild give them protein as well as the carbs but I stick to wheat mainly as it works for me have you tried worming them ? Some people I know never do but I worm regulary yes the birds should be hungry but not starving theres a fine line as for flying out now there loads of bops near me and believe it or not sparrowhawks take them in the air in winter they hit them whilst flying and glide down with them by the time you get to them their dead so I dont fly in winter now come spring they arent as bad so I try not to feed them
-
At the moment mine are locked up on full crops of good stuff till they get through the moult and we get a bit better weather after christmas while their locked up I go through them health wise worm ect when I start letting them out again them out again they will be on barley for about a week to take the fat off them when first let out again they need to get fit and they will try and land all over and wont kit either it usually takes about 2 weeks to get them something like again a general guide is a heaped tablespoon per bird if they go too high take a bit out too low put a bit in barley makes them rake more and roll more but fly less time and not as high but as I said its a balancing act any bird not trapping on command in say 2 minutes gets no food at all until the penny drops if they keep roofing I would say theyve been spoilt but you might get them right if you persevere good luck dont give up if you get them right you will reap the benefits of your hard work
-
If they keep sitting on roof then their what I would call spoiled birds mine dont go on the roof but each to their own why dont you contact donna and paul chantry donna is sec of all england roller club shes at bradford you should get some good advice off her maybe the person that had the birds before you allowed them to sit on roof and laze about if so your going to struggle to break the bad habits maybe they didnt and theres another problem its all about controlled exercise and control with the right amount of food its a bit like a juggling act but if you keep at it you will get there you cant start racing and win every race straight away can you? Aerc motto is patience perseverance perfection keep at it everthings new at the moment contact donna and ask for advice

Depending on their age some more should roll yet if their only young theres time for them to develop as time goes on the shorter rollers quite often roll deeper until they reach their full potential if they roll just before or as they come in to land then those birds are classed as unstable and best not bred off as sooner or later they will kill themselves
-
Another issue is when you fly them you should never feed straight away as this encourages them to fly shorter and sorter times as they know as soon as they trap they get fed when they trap just give enough food to get them in then shut them up and walk away go back say an hour later and feed them young birds in particular will soon get to know the drill once there trained you can get away with feeding early if your in a rush any birds consistantly going on roof will soon pull the rest down and spoil them try flying the best behaved ones with just one of these roofers at a time and with luck the team should pull them up persistant offenders need removing eventually maybe you can use them as feeders to foster eggs off the best ones
-
If their in moult and dropping to bits they wont want to fly when they get near to end of wing theyre sore but if they sit on roof thats bad training mine go out and up only fly when hungry but not starving and keep control if they sit on roof and wont come in their overfed mine dont go on roof at all appart from an odd young one just starting if you fly them too fat they fly too low and a 20 foot roller flying at 15ft isnt going to live very long if you overfeed when fit they go too high and then you loose them

I meant your end of the motorway not mine !! I presumed that after you had birds stolen you wouldnt want visitors as I wouldnt I would gladly pick up at yours if thats what you meant I wasnt being cheeky

There were kestrels near me for years until the rspbs favourite peregrines moved in and nested in the quarry where the lived then the kestrels ended up in the peres nest as food I would think that this is quite commonplace
-
Not that far from u I used to go to lens so did u and yes rollers and others
-
Depends on area availability etc where abouts are you looking at ? Some places have waiting lists I think council own the land in bamber bridge near matalan what sort of birds are u talking there are allotments usually to let at pear tree farm on blackburn old road think its 25 pounds a year there

Pigeons Ok Walking On 1" Square Mesh?
Rolldowns54 replied to Stu3y's topic in Lofts, Fixtures & Fittings
I keep rollers and I use 2inch mesh most of roller lads use the same inch will clog up after a while believe it or not I have wire 12inches above floor in kitbox and front door in corridoor to clean out some use sliding trays I can also lift grille up prop it up and shovel muck straight in a bag mice near to be kept clear at all times anyway I have bait stations always set and multicatch traps -
Could be pere but could also could be hen sparrowhawk I keep rollers and tipplers and ive seen them hit my birds in the air and glide down with them people keep saying im mistaken they dont do that but im definately correct theyve adapted other people I know in other areas are now telling me that the same thing is happening to them once the hen spar is sitting you usually get a bit of peace for a while as the cock is too small to take pigeons but it will start again in autumn
-
I have a mate in dewsbury he gets hammered by peres has done for the last few years on top of the usual almost daily sparrowhawk appearances the way things are going there wont be any pigeon flying soon its a worldwide problem man meddling with the balance ofnature again
-
Trapman think its co .uk makes and sells humane feral cat traps get one bait it with kfc bones or box if its stray take it to rspca and hand it in or similar if it has a tag on tell the owners you want compensation ive been told cat owners are liable for any damage caused
-
The public see a bop and think how wonderful I dont think they know the full extent of the problem bloke at work loves peres poor sod he told me they were very rare until I told him of several nest sites that I know of through the grapevine of pigeon lads having problems with them he didnt believe how many there were itsthe media telling lies that causes a lot of it theres many more sites we dont know of as I said in another post if we dont act soon pigeon keeping will cease to exist dont say you were not warned
-
I was told a few years ago by a friend that a well known figure in a local raptor protection group was actively involved in the reintroduction of perigrines and that he commented thats perigrines sorted next project goshawks with type of mentality we and songbirds dont stand a snowflake in hells chance another person told me that goshawks had been sited on a nearby estate and there was a table made out of a sheet of ply on logs in the wood with dead chicks on it to feed these killers on in winter what a bunch of idiots !
-
Im not in any club anymore I soon learned I was buying rings to fill percys nest I fly or did fly rollers tipplers etc last year had 4 different lots of perigrines feeding off my birds this year more than ever tried sequins flutes dye stock marker etc nothing works I know some wont believe me but im definately right even sparrowhawks are taking mine in air now and gliding down other day a spar hen grabbed one 6ft away from me and dog and let go in the fall from loft roof as they clapped up in panic a cock peri took one absolutely ridiculous had pigeons most of my life im nearly 60 been a countryman all my life lived here since I was 2 years old im sick and tired of them no chance at all
-
Its an absolute nightmare we are overrun with bops near me just started flying out after winter lockdown been hit and birds taken everytime out only a matter of time before pigeon keeping ceases to exist what will they eat then? Filling forms in signing petition etcis a total waste of time imnot far of throwing in the towel what needs to be done is stop giving to charity and use that money to get in the public eye and let the public know whats happening in real life if some positive action like this isnt taken soon there wont be any racing or charity money and we all know this charity is very admirable but as they say charity begins at home act now or coninue sitting on your hands and wait for the sports demise the choice is yours
-
I find it hardly surprising that most people cant be bothered with strays as when you try to help people most of them cant even be bothered to reply or thank you
