  1. The birds flying North into Scotland wouldn't have clashed with those being libbed from Perth, Berwick, Alnwick etc as the strong wind meant they were flying at two very different height extremes. The birds flying over us on Saturday heading North with the wind behind them were like little dots in the sky with those flying into the wind were hedge hopping. We live about 20minutes from Ripon and it was a bright morning so if the birds went up the East coast they shouldnt have had problems. I suspect they hit some heavy showers somewhere like ours would have done coming down from Fraserburgh.
  2. Well she's an ace mouser so we have no vermin problems around the loft!
  3. Sorry, I left the laptop on the sofa while I washed up and Jess our cat seems to have posted several times!
  4. Thankfully we now only have 2 missing from Fraserburgh although one of these has already had a win this season. Some clubs in the Fed have had good returns while others seem to have birds missing. We have heard rumours that the North and East Yorkshire Elgin race had bad returns....

  10. Returns from Fraserburgh into Yorkshire are a bit haphazard for some fanciers. The wind has been a strong South Easterly all day with us so we believe it's just the wind that's outdone them. We have now 23/28 with the winner in our club doing 1115. How have other fanciers flying from Scotland into England gone on?
  11. The other birds have been taken out. Dont know how it got in and until get some time down the loft in the daylight this weekend haven't had chance to throughly look. There's nothing obvious; know they can get in through something as small as a knot in the wood of the loft.
  12. We've got about 5 gin trap set baited with meat and two of the dead birds but no luck.
  13. Sorry no Scottish pigeons at our loft. It was good racing conditions down with us so I expect somewhere in between you and me something went wrong. Can anyone in the North East shed any light?
  14. We raced from Berwick to North Yorkshire yesterday and returns are how you would describe as patchy. Some members have got most of their birds home whilst others have half their loft missing. Speeds were alot slower than expected. Can anyone shed any light on what the weather was like enroute and why we've had this type of race? Would be interested to know how the Derbyshire Fed faired? Thanks.
  15. Yorkshire North Road pigeons libbed at 1pm from Berwick. Believe Derbyshire went about 20 minutes before us. Shotgun Tim, what was it like?
  16. Thanks Tim! Fingers crossed it's get out in the next hour or so. It's nice here now in Thirsk, off to watch the neighbours birds with GYA from Newark. Keep us posted if we get a lib as to whether they clear ok!
  17. "the birds for some crazy reason had gone down the eastern side of the country" So let's blame the pigeons, it's ther fault that they never got home now is it? What a heartless thing to say. Perhaps they went down the East as the weather was so shocking they couldn't see to get over the Pentland Hills. Even with East in the wind the visibility still needs to be good.
  18. Shotgun Tim, keep us updated, the Yorkshire North Road pigeons are also at Berwick!
  19. And they say that pigeon fanciers have no money........
  20. What a waste of some no doubt some absolute fantastic pigeons, goodness knows how many months of training and goodness know how many people's time and good faith today. Think of those poor pigeons sat goodness knows where wondering what the hell they have been let go for and from where. Those that have gone into local lofts around Edinburgh are the lucky ones. All those fanicers sent their best pigeons may as well have chucked their money on a bonfire. The forecast tomorrow shows alot more hope for a decent race. As my other half has just said, if this neglience was shown to racehorses or greyhounds then criminal charges would be brought but as its just racing pigeons then who gives a damn. This will hardly bring 'good publicity' to what is already a dying sport. But hey, what does it matter, we've got the money in for the race entries, pools, beer and food money for today so we're not bothered.
  21. I couldn't find one....
  22. Can't help but think they haven't really considered the conditions for the pigeons but it was more that they had the marquees up and beer in so they birds just had to go. It hasn't been very good here in North Yorkshire execept for a couple of hours this afternoon between 1-3pm. Can't help but feel for the pigeons, most by now will be sat on house roof tops wondering what the hell is going on.
  23. Chucking it down in North Yorkshire; the cat won't go out so hardly pigeon racing weather!
  24. our north road birds were doing winning velocities of less than 1000ypm. dont give up.
  25. The wind meant the pigeons were at very different heights so unlikely to clash. We were at berwick and have also had a bad race but its never got out all day and has been 'skuddy' so we couldn't see the hills. hope they work in for you.
