HI TED, I PAID ABOUT £12 FOR A SMALL BOTTLE OF IVERMECTIN FROM MY LOCAL VETS ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO WHICH I USED TO TREAT ABOUT 60 PIGEONS ,IM TOLD THAT IVERMECTIN KILLS LICE/MITES AND ALSO WORMS SO AT APPROX £12 A BOTTLE IT WAS WELL WORTH THE MONEY- I GAVE EACH PIGEON 2 DROPS DIRECTLY ONTO THE SKIN BEHIND THE NECK AS INSTRUCTED BY THE VET, SINCE TREATING MY PIGEONS THEY HAVE ALL BEEN CLEAR OF ANY LICE AND MITES AND SHOW NO OBVIOUSE SIGNS OF ANY WORMS, I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU? KEV PS HAVE OTHER FANCIERS WHO HAVE TRIED IVERMECTIN FOUND IT TO BE EFFECTIVE ?

i think that id want a pigeon reported back to me however long it had been missing, after all who knows what the pigeon had to contend with while it was trying to get home? kev

what do u use on your pigeons ,tel no rings or wing stamps? when i used to wing stamp i never had a lost pigeon reported back to me but since changing over to tel no rings ive had 4 yb,s reported back which i dont think would have been reported if they were wing stamped as non fanciers wouldnt know to look under a pigeons wing but a tel ring no is much easier spotted, what do u think or use? kev

i play my eagle owl cd every day for 1 hr b4 letting my birds out for excercise and i havnt had a hit since (thanks tam) i was on the verge of giving up pigeons b4 i had even started racing due to hawks but im now keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that tams eagle owl cd will continue to keep the hawks at bay, have other fanciers who have tried the cd found it to be effective ?? im not kidding myself into believing that my raptor problem is over and am still constantly on the look out while my birds are excercising but the cd has been a godsend and long may it continue kev :)

to andy(darnaway) my loft is at crawley, west sussex on the south coast, also thanks to tammy, redfoxkrauths, geraint parry and birdman for replying, im not expecting to win anything in my first year but it would be nice to get a card,i will only be doing the sprint races to start with and then take it from there-i cant wait to be sitting in my back garden waiting(hoping)for a bird but it will be good just to take part in it
-
thanks for the eagle owl disc u sent me tam-4 weeks now and i havent seen a hawk, i play it every morning before i go to work and for 1 hour pm before the birds go out for excercise,it had got to the stage where i thought i would have to keep the birds in over winter but hopefully your disc has worked its magic,im not kidding myself that my hawk problem is over but at 4 weeks and counting and not a hit ,things are looking good, thanks again. kev

i read somewhere in the past that you should pick your club carefully depending on where you live (north, east, south or west of that club)and how the wind can affect you on race days? as a novice i thought that i would study my pigeons behaviour for a couple of years and see what i could learn from them before trying my luck at club racing, any advice would be appreciated as i am now looking to start racing next year, thanks, kev :-/ :-/

Caring for injured pigeon
kev01293 replied to Jim McArthur's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
well done jim for taking the time and effort to care for the pigeon when so many people nowadays just dont care and are not prepared to make the slightest effort to help a injured bird or animal, you sound like you would make a excellent pigeon fancier kev keep your eyes open jim as i wouldnt be suprised if your feathered friend decided to return to you after the good care you took of it
