  1. I was really shocked tonight when they showed the nest of 5 peregrine chicks at the bristol suspension bridge, there was very clearly at least 8 pigeon racing rings at the edge of the nest, 08 - 07 - 09 rings, but no mention from the presenters as they enthused about the success of the rearing parents. Paul.
  2. Some of my birds droppings will go to water if I feed any % of barley. Paulo
  3. Thanks for that, sounds like good advice, I will try it. Paul
  4. Hi all, Im moving house soon, How hard will it be to break the old birds into the new location? oh and by the way its only half a mile away from there old loft! Thanks Paul.
  5. Hi there, Ive had the same problem myself, some days they fly well, other days they doo my headin, ive been racing pigeons for five years and its only now ive started to cut the feed back to see if this will help as I feed quite rich most of the time, never done any good inland but as soon as the races over the channel arrive they perform better, I fly in a very competative club so its difficult to win for the best of them, cutting the feed back also brings the birds closer to you as the manager I feel as the one or two in the loft that would usually tend to hang back will try anything for a peanut or two and for me its all about the interaction with your teams. The older fanciers always refer to the feeding being the key along with health etc. Ive also started to use more Barley, what do you think? Paul.
  6. Its gotta be straw in this c*ap weather.
  7. Ive had to seperate my hens and cocks as they were not interested, could be because I have built a new loft during the winter and they were all housed together + the cold, I used tabaco stalks for the nest bowls but im changing to straw and lots of it when I re-pair in two weeks, hope it warmer and the pairs will be well up to it! looks likw I will be racing back to young for the first two or three races with most of the birds.
  8. You can hear the cheers from the fire fighters a mile off lol.

  11. Thanks Im just trying to get a feel for the amount they really need to prepare them for there first race over the channel, like do they need to be out every day off the eggs for a wing stretcher or will tossing them from the basket be enough a couple of times a week prior to the first race? Paul.
  12. Anyone on here like to give advise on how much training hens on eggs need for prep for over the channel, how much would tire them out? Paul.

    TELFORD SHOW

I was shocked with the parking fee, it was cheaper to park on the town centre carpark and walk over, I think it was £6 at the show to park.
  18. Hi, Can anyone give me some advice on the best strain of sprint pigeon and how these would be fed before racing, I keep busshearts but seem to do quite badly in land with them. Kind Regards.
  19. Hi Whiteracer, I am a novice flyer, I have been racing pigeons for 3 seasons, my old birds all land on my house roof before progressing into the loft, this is my fault as I did not know how to stop them. this year i have cracked the art of keeping the young birds off the house roof but I am afraid that it starts from the first time they leave the loft, keep them hungry when letting them out for the first few months, first two weeks let them hop out and stay with them to watch out for cats/hawks etc, get them back in with a whistle or shake a tin of seed, then third week scare them up, they will go all over the place but this will give them the idea of flying hungry and they will stayup for up to a hour sometimes less, if they dont go straight into the loft when calling in cut back the feed its that simple. Hope this helps it works for me. Paul.
