just checked the bird and the cock has left it. i have brought it up to the house just so that it will not die of cold. It is about 10 days old now and the feathers are just starting to come through. I need to know how to hand feed it. I know it sounds stupid but do they take it off you or do you need a syrindge to force feed it. I have tried placing small seeds in its beak and it just spits them back out... is this the right way to feed it....

i have had tumblers for 2 years and have only had to kill 1. I want to get some racers this year but the one thing that puts me off when racing is having to kill the birds when they arnt any use.
-
hi cheers for the input... oh and by the way i am 16 jimmy. I went to ask the bloke i got the birds off last week what breed they are, and he said 'mags'. I am only learning about how to look after the birds and i dont really know much about them. I lost 2 today due a sparrow hawk nesting in the woods behind my loft so i am going to get some racers in a few weeks time.

does it look anything like this bird because this is a mag...
-
HI Does anyone on here ever bred or herd about a breed of tumbler called mags? I have 7 of these birds and i wondered if anyone else has any pictures of them that i could see. cheers

Hi i have kept mags for 2 years and i have not had much luck when breeding. Every year i have only managed to breed 5-6 youngsters and out of them i loose 4 in the first week of them hatching out. I have asked about and my mate said the food i am using might be too big for the squeakers and so is killing them. I am using a breeding mix that my local dealer sold me. It has got maize and peas in it but does state that it is a breeding mix. Last year i tried a small mix without peas and maize in it and the youngsters survived. Has anyone else had any trouble like this when the food is killing theire squeaks??? all input appretiated...

hi Is it common for a bird to only lay 1 egg???i went down to the loft today and there was still only one egg in the bowl that one of my hens was sitting...i have checked around the bowl and on the floor for if their is any shells about. The first egg was laid on monday is she likely to lay again? Also will a single hen lay eggs if she hasnt mated and isnt paired up with a cock because i have what i thought was a cock and hen that havnt paired up but the hen has laid. The cock isnt showing much interest with the hen... can anyone give me any answers???

I have notice that some of my birds are missing patches of feathers on their neck. The patches without feathers are about the size of a ten pence. When i checked under some of the feathers around the bare patches i saw loads of long and thin like lice and i just wondered what i can do to get rid of them because they seem to be irritating my birds and they are making them look very rough... any input really appretiated :-/

Hi... I have heard a lot about garlic juice. I havent heard a bad word about yet so I went to buy some, i found out that it was quite expensive for what it was.I spoke to a 'crack' pigeon fancier and told him about it. He said how easy it is to make my own and how it does exactly the same thing...So when i got home i bought a whole garlic and liquidised it then i added some water. It came out really well. But all i want to know is how i should use it and how much to put in for 15 birds... ??)

I have tumblers and rolers and would love to show them on this site. It sounds like a really good idea to get begginers like me to show off their birds. LET ME KNOW WHEN ITS HAPPENING!!! ;D

I had the same problem with squirels getting into my loft. I got a havaheart squirel trap and baited it with nuts. The squirels can take the nuts without triggering the trap so tried half a waggonwheel and came back to a bugger in the trap... I took it about 5 miles down the road and released it in a wood. Must of liked it because it never came back. ;D

Sorry to hear about this :'( I am not racing yet but i hope to when i am older...But by the sounds of things their wont be any clubs for me to join... :-/

I can understand how you feel westy. My mate had 2 nest pairs pinched last year and he found them in a lads loft about 100 yards down the road. The lad who pinched them has been raiding others lofts around my area. When ever a loft is raided by my mates area this lads loft is always the suspect of where the birds are...

Because i have rolers and i live on a line that a lot of racing pigeons fly on, i have a lot of strays come into my loft with the rolers. About a month ago i went down to feed my birds and i noticed a racer sat on its own in the corner with i ring on. I am pretty sure when i called my birds in the day before it must of come in with them. Any way the bird was really thin and could hardly walk so i fed it and let it go after about 3 weeks. It never came back to me again so i presume it got back to its home ok. I no alot of people who feed strays and then send them on their way so no body should guess that people are trying to break their birds in when some people do try and help other fanciers

At the moment i am feeding a small mix with no peas and no maize because the big grains were killing the youngsters. Also i only have a one section loft so it isnot really possible to keep them seperate so i am stumped...

I have rolers and tumblers and need to know the answers to some of these questions... 1. I have birmingham rolers and mags(a sort of tumbler) and want to know whether it is a good idea to let them breed toghether because i have had a lot of people say that i will ruin the birds but on the other hand i have had a lot of people say that i will breed some nice birds... What do you think??? 2. All of my birds seem to be lazy... They always sit on top of the loft roof. I dont want to flag them off because when i have tried this they only go and sit on someone elses roof. Has anyone got any infomation on feed pattern etc or any other tip that will make them fly for a lot longer periods??? thanks for any advice given jordan

I have a youngster that was born about two weeks ago, the other hatchling is well and at a good size, But this one is very small and seems to be not very well feathered. I really want it to survive but i think the parents are getting fed up with feeding it and so it is getting weaker. Is their any way of hand feeding it because i need all the birds i can get due to just starting out this year and having lost a lot of birds for diffrent reasons. I have heard of hand feeding pigeons but i need some infomation so can anybody help me???? thanks... :-/

Had one cat problem but since i took the fence down between the loft and the rest of the garden(so my cocker spaniels cant get in) the cats havent been seen. Last year my dogs caught a cat in my shed and lets just say the dogs came out on top!!!

Thanks for all the advice everyone! i moved the birds and the bowl to my new loft, and after about half an hour the birds went back to the eggs and are still sitting them now. Will the eggs be ok because they have been left for half an hour??? and how long can eggs normally be left for without them 'dying'???
-
I have had alot off diffrent answers. Some say move them and some say dont but has anyone had this trouble before and moved them if so could you please give me some advice??? Any advice is REALLY helpful...

I have had a pair sitting on eggs for about 3 days now and i need to move them into a new loft because i am going on holiday. Is thier anyway that i can move the bowl with the eggs in to the new loft so they can sit them in a diffrent place or will they dissert the eggs??? i really need these eggs to hatch because i lost a few birds recently but i also need to move to pair into the new loft. Has anyone got any advice from their expeiriences... :-/
