Thanks for the advice chrissy and sammy... your probly right sammy i dont fill the bowls up enough... i just put a layer of twigs in and they do the rest... ;D
-
I have always been taught one of the basic rules in pigeons is you must keep their feet clean... I have folowed this rule for the past 3 years that i have had pigeons. But when my squakers come out of the bowl they always have hard lumps of muck on their feet which i struggle to clean off. I dont want to touch the squeaks in the bowl to much E.G for cleaning the bowl out... :-/ does anyone else have this problem...is their anyway to keep their feet clean when they have just left the bowl. ??)

sammy I dont have a very big loft... a 6x4ft and 4x4ft with a 2x6ft aveiry... is this ok to race from and how many birds would i be able to keep???
-
How many birds would you say i would need to race a season. I am getting my new birds soon and i wondered how many i will need if i race next season? Also how many will i need to breed off these birds to race the young bird races... ??) ;D
-
No nothing is wrong i just wondered whether it is a good thing to give the birds something to stop them catching anything, they have never been medicated against anything.
-
What would you say is the easiest, cheapest and most effective way of medicating your birds, and what would you advise me to use. ??)
-
Thanks for the advice there boys... Would you say that i would be able to race widdowhood with this loft??? I think i might make a new section so that i could split hens and cocks over the winter.
-
This is my loft layout. I want to start racing soon so i would like to know whether my loft is good enough to race from. The main section has a pitched roof with 12 nest boxes and 30 flat perches. on the front of the main section is an aviery which the birds have constant access to.Their is also a 4'x4' aveiry with v perches installed. I have room for another 4'x4' section, and would like to know what you would do with it if you were in my situation...

cheers peckedhen do you know how long the feathers took to re-grow??? did you seperate the offender????
-
Thats what it is wiley his head is pretty messed up. feathers missing and really bruised today. I have boxed the culprit up in a 1x1 ft nest box with food and water. Will this be ok
-
His hen got 'hawked' about a month ago...left him with the squeaks to look after and he didnt rear them...
-
Went in the loft today and saw a pair on the floor with an unpaired cock in their box pecking and feeding their squeak. The squeak has no feathers on its head now and looks a right mess. I am sure this cock has been pecking the squeak. Will the feathers grow back soon and what should i do to stop this happening again???
-
cheers bruno and jimmy would you say it is possible to race from a 1 section loft? I am toying with weather to build another aveiry or a 4x4ft section onto my loft...
-
hope it turns out ok...all the best

-
what would you say the smallest amount of space you need to race... for example i have a 1 section 6x4" loft with 6x2" aveiry and i am just adding another 4x4" section. would this be enough space to race the birds???
-
I havent got any birds yet...but i have been offered some in a months time. Thanks for the offer though taylorslofts. I am currently buiding a new section for my loft at the moment. i am from kidderminster near birmingham... cheers for the advice...

starting up... ;D At the moment i have tumblers and i am going to get some racers soon. Once i have trained and feel confident with the birds i am going to start racing. Non of my family are familiar with this sport so i have to see freinds to help me. Is their any advice that anyone can give to try and start off on the right foot e.g. how to join a club and what do i need etc...
-
cheers for the advice tammy... do you think that they will go back to the old pen??? how long would you say to keep them in for???
-
hi I have a 1 section 6x4ft loft with a 6x2ft avery. At the moment i have got 7 tumblers in it but i would like to get some racers. I deffinatly dont want to dispose of them because i have enjoyed keeping them for 3 years. I wondered if they would break to a new loft if i build one about 2 meters away from there current one??? Has anyone ever had this problem if so what do you think i should do????

cheers sammy i will try it in the morning... the squeak still has a full crop so shud be ok
