  1. I'm watching Magic, channel 353 (Sky). Currently BAD - Michael Jackson :-)
  2. Well, there's a whole new thread for the Thatcher sociopath. Like you, I'll leave it there, otherwise the pigeons will be obscured :-)
  3. I thought Straines was in Middlesex? ;-)
  4. My family is from South Wales, and the damage was already done there. Her philosophy was that there was 'no such thing as society'. Well, she said it, and she made it so. Look what her government spawned. I just hope that when she finally pops her clogs, 'society' won't have to pay for her State funeral.
  5. Classic :-) :-) I blame it on Thatcher, Thatcher, milk snatcher b**tch!!!
  6. Excellente!! Definitely take pics along the way, as it's easy to lose sight of your progress without photographic evidence :-) Hope you soon get it kitted out :-)
  7. This is probably stupid coming from someone with little experience and even less knowledge, but does the rush to get success - the pace of life - impatience, lead to some corners being cut, and forcing birds to do the job on our terms rather than theirs cause problems? I'm not in any position to judge as I don't race, but I've seen this in other fields. There are, of course loads of other factors that people with experienced views have covered, better than I could.
  8. I've got two pots of lavender outside my shed, and have very few flies. Unfortunately though it's French lavender and not as pungent as English. Will re-pot next year.
  9. Derbyshire!!!!! Gorgeous :-)
  10. Good luck with it, Julie. Thanks again :-)
  11. DOVEScott, this is brilliant news. When you think back to how he was not that long ago, it's miraculous. At the end of the day, it's down to Billy but surely he'd never have made this great recovery without you both. Oh, that we could all have such friends. :-)
  12. Good luck with it!! Please ask away if you have any specific question, or if you need any advice from a novice, feel free to PM me. I'm on and off the forum regularly :-) Also, don't know what you think, but it might be worth asking a moderator if there's any way they can remove your other thread, as it might be easier for you and others to follow on this thread? Just a thought. Cheers.
  13. DOVEScott, don't ;-) I like French Bread, but not French bred LOL. That bird looks more like a seagull :-) :-) Only joking - it looks absolutely gorgeous. Never seen one before!
  14. Julie - thanks so much for your efforts in taking the time to join the forum and report this pigeon. Very much appreciated, and hope you manage to reunite owner and bird. :-)
  15. Hi 'oddy'. Didn't notice the two threads on this subject, and just replied to the other one. So, I'll quote myself from the other one to save typing it all out again :-) :-) PS: Should have mentioned that although I reported my bird, the owner didn't actually get the report, so didn't know about it. As you read the thread though, we finally made contact, and they were/are great people which reinforces my point about owners in general :-)
  16. Hi 'oddy', and a very warm welcome to Pigeonbasics. Firstly, please don't get the impression from your experience that all fanciers/racers are in the same boat as the owner of the one you have. Far from it. The vast majority are responsible and know the rules. As OLDYELLOW says, it is the owner's responsibility to deal with it. You shouldn't feel honour bound to take the pigeon in yourself. However, for me, a factor would be the owner's apparent attitude towards the bird, and what you think is best all round. There's masses of information on this forum, but as OLDYELLOW says, you could do worse than looking through the Pigeon in my kitchen thread. A warning though - it's a long one! However, it charts my experience with a pigeon that found its way to me and the journey we've been on together. A huge amount of advice though, and it might inspire you to look after the bird yourself. Part of your decision will probably centre around whether you want to do this, and whether the pigeon will stay with you (and that depends on a lot of factors, including whether you want it to fly out or keep it in). I'm still a total novice, but am hooked. There's loads of advice you can call on here, but the main thing I'd say to you is thank you for taking the time to look after this bird so far. If you're interested, the thread mentioned above is: http://forum.pigeonbasics.com/m-1206123382/ Regards.
  17. Has your loft arrived yet, Paul? Not bad weather for it!
  18. Morning everyone :-) A little misty here and humid. Looks to be quite bright and fairly low winds here tomorrow.
  19. As ever, thanks, Phil. He looks a bit like a moth-eared old teddy bear (other than the fact that he's a bird, not a bear LOL).
  20. Bluey is moulting - neck looking a bit scrawny, and around his eyes, he's losing feathers. Looks a bit of a state compared with how he usually looks. Makes him look years older. I've never had a pigeon going through a moult before. I think the time to get through a moult depends largely on the birds condition/health? On average though, any pointers on how long it usually takes, and should I be giving any additional supplements? Thanks.
  21. Hopefully she'll repay you for her rest and care :-) Good luck.
  22. Crikey, what a disgrace. As has already been said, if it's a fancier, it's a sick one. I'd like to think it wasn't though, as you hear of such horrific things happening to animals out there. I'm still reeling over some sick bas**rd who used a flame-thrower on a guinea pig amongst other things. The kind magistrate/judge just gave them a suspended sentence. My personal view is that if someone is so twisted to do things like that to animals, it's only a small step to do it to humans too. Hope you have a good outcome with the hen.
  23. Good pic, Martin. Glad you managed to sort it out. Wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't pay a return visit ;-)
  24. Be interesting to hear what the vet says, after which amar can consider best course of action.
  25. Good, good. Keep it up :-)
