Categorising pigeons in to groups is only going on there performance of the last fancier , on the continent most fanciers specialise so hence easy to put them in to 3 category's . But if you specialise in sprint racing your birds wont be tested further who's to say these birds wont win from 700 miles , Bushearts winning from 50 to 500+ miles all-rounders perhaps another category ?????? A good friend of mine has one pair that breeds both sprinters and distance birds at random both winning , but the sprinters won't do the distance and the distance birds won't sprint and he's a good flyer so horses for courses if there comfortable at a distance use them to your advantage pointless pushing a sprinter too far if winning

Fitness does come in to it but I wouldn't send a unfit bird to a race So I was going on the bases the birds sent were fit then when there raced they can be judged on there performance and recovery
-
to me it's quite simple if you send your birds the ones that fly the quickest and recover fast can be pushed further and are usually bouncing in loft on return , the ones that take longer to recover are at there limit , but there's many other factors to consider such as wind

Speed and recovery time

good luck Rich

the beauty of it is you can be amongst yer birds without disturbing them

If ever replaced my loft a corridor would be high up on my list

My mate had walls all way round and fed in corridor on a wooden floor so no spillage so basically he had a pit to clean out and a air block in front wall of each section

Injections / Treatments

They one thing anyone will advise is to treat for Paromixyo virus , the next main common ailment is canker this usually goes out of hand when birds are under stressed common symptoms are a cheesey like growth in back of birds mouth although wet canker can create wet droppings , then next worms a long with lice which can be easily dealt with , with Ivomectin 2 drops on back of neck , then there's going light rapid loss of weight. My advice would be get them vaccinated for Paromixyo virus and treat for worms / parasites with Ivomectin , consider getting your birds tested by sending samples away treat for what you do have . As for prevention a few simple products are fresh garlic add to water , cider vinegar also add to water , live natural yoghurt and brewers yeast add to feed for 2 days a week look after the good bacteria in the gut and the birds immune system should do the rest . -
My mate skip has reinforced mesh floor no problems with it nor getting birds right , certainly makes for easier cleaning and birds never in there own droppings

see ya physio to make a wee harness to go on back of birds with a wee mask on lol :emoticon-0140-rofl:

Last hand built loft by me was same high at back lower at front for same reasons , plus could get 5 boxes in at back and could also see all birds or any cats if on roof

even on a windless day a chimney works and doesn't require any form of power so to me it's the perfect solution to ventilation / changing of stale air
-
one of the races he never went out for a week and still won, he is bred from toffie and busey ,toffie is direct from arial one of bosuas best from kannibal ,bossy boy is from a son of kannibal

A chimney is a cracking way to change air and will always work no mater the direction of the wind
-
good change of air Have a tiled roof great way to change air

If I paired a blue grizzle to a red grizzle likely hood is birds of both colours now the blue grizzle would carry red but wouldn't necessarily show ( unless had bronzing in the flights ) however the red grizzle would more likely show black splash denoting carrying blue recessive red is not dominant
-
Definitely a throw back then watch it I bet it's a good un

Why you coming to see me lol :emoticon-0140-rofl: , I'd say 10 big suppliers , Usually 3 ets companys , usually a couple of loft manufacturers , and lots of bird stalls that's just rough , I like the drive , I like the venue and I think it's a good day out
-
Wiley is there any chance that the hen could of been tread prior to been paired suppose that's got to be first question , Although fanciers believe that you can't bred a red from none red birds it's not true they must be carrying red and has simply thrown back , I've had blue bars and chequers from two reds and as for whites or pieds they can appear anywhere from any birds white is not a colour just a lack of pigmentation and the true colour masked showing a white bird

1) Eggs too tough reason too much barley 2) Not enough nutrients in egg ( b12 is good to ensure nutrients are rich ) 3) chilled causing death 4) paratyphoid 5) red mite Just a few probable reasons

We have no power to alter laws in other countries and vice versa so basically a no brainer as they would say. The press and those in the media aren't as daft as they look they know Pigeons both wild and domesticated aren't on any red list nor will they be , the campaign was flawed before it started , there's enough facts and figures out there already to help champion a cause against raptors . If the approach was from Song birds and wild birds the facts and numbers are already there to be utilised , Photo of a Percy eating a green woodpecker on my facebook , how shocking is that an actual red list species been eaten on a photo . As said 600 people signed at Blackpool out of 100,000 , fanciers alone won't work , we need the backing of the general public to make this work , you wont get that with pigeons alone.
