  1. vallance, yes there is a lot of genuine interest and i'm sure the majority of use would give the same help to a non fancier if they wern't on a forum. I know, by a few posts by a minority that not everybody would help, but thats life! Phil

  7. the other thing to do as well as keeping them under control is not to feed them to heavy a food mix if you want to get them flying. Once a few start taking to the air the others will follow but if in a couple of wks you still have a couple just sitting arround then get the broom behind them and get em in the air.
  8. don't know what this one thinks he is!

whats there to be jealous about, tell us all about the way there championships work and what the velocities are, also bear in mind the birds are all flying to a relativly small area, an island!

how is there exactly the same number of birds 1260 sent to 2 different races?

must agree with Tammy, You havn't won anything, certainly not BIG! You've got positions but thats it! What were the velocities? if it was a blow home you could get a fantail in the result!
  14. IB, the reason for whatever system you use is the moult. Natural youngbirds will be getting towards the last few flights when racing is half way through. Darkness causes the birds to body moult but hold the wing flights. The other way to race them for people working is breed early and put them on lightness so they have moulted all flights before racing. Phil
  15. All sounding better by the day, sure we all can't wait or mate for more progress!
  16. whats the ring number and i'll tell you if i can find ring list. PHil
  17. for anybody who is working you could always put an electric blind on a timer that could open the birds up while you are at work and time it so you can excercise the birds when you get home and then darken down again. Just an idea! Phil
  18. also Stuart, all being well would be better to have a couple of youngsters as it would be difficult for a newcomer to break in an old bird without some experience. Phil
  19. There are a lot of fanciers who do go to schools with birds and do a talk as we often see the pics in the BHW etc but this alone is not enough. We need a paid person who is dedicated to the task, a difficult task but one that needs adressing. Phil
  20. correct the loft is our sanctury! Phil
  21. Invalid, i'm sure most would agree, when hopefully there is a positive outcome to this story it would be fantastic publicity for the sport if you were to write your story for the local paper. There are many threads on this forum about attracting new members, both young and old and its stories like this that people need to know showing the positive side to the sport. Phil

    Youngsters

Lloyd, if your not desperate for them then i'll breed you some latebreds latter on. Phil
  23. The RPRA seem reluctant to appoint a PR man/woman for some reason! It maybe that again it needs to go through clubs then region then council a proposition to create such a post! Any volounteers?
  24. All I am hoping foris that he pulls through, then if Invalid does get a small shed/loft with sputnik etc on the front i'm sure some of us will find a couple of youngbirds to put in there as that would be more sensible than an adult mate that maynot settle. Phil
  25. i think thrashing young birds is short sighted, a consistant young bird will make a better yearling etc than one thats been thrashed and had a couple of wins.
