its always interesting to read comments regarding this problem and wether to let the birds out or not! In a few weeks people will start letting birds out after having had them confined for a few months, the birds will be unfit and will not excercise well for a while. During this time they will be hit by hawks! I bred a batch of latebreds that go out every day for excercise and fly for an hour before coming straight back in for feed, they range accross the sky and not a single one has been touched as they are very fit and have become street wise to the hawks! Those who have kept there birds shut in prepare for losses! Phil

When David had the "pigeon in my kitchen" he contacted the owner and the owner was happy for him to keep and care for the pigeon, the bird you have may have been stollen in which case you could be in possesion of stollen goods!

what is will say in response to some comments above is that the breeder may no know the fate of his bird! The breeder may have lost the bird, a stray catcher caught it etc etc. At the end of the day you are breaking the law detaining somebody elses bird! I know and understand you want the best for the bird as we all do for ours but it his highly likely the owner has been trying to find his bird as well. Anybody who breeds birds for training purposes wouldn't do as you have described with the bird, they would also not ring the birds used! Phil

if they were going on to farm land the chances are they will stop once the crops start to grow as they won't be able to settle but if going onto grass, playing field etc then this won't happen. Do you leave your birds out? If so you need to get more control over them, keep them hungry, let them excercise and then call them straight back into the loft for food, they will soon learn that once they have excercised it will be food time and won't bother going off. i blame her mum for the double chin! Both doing well and baby off ventilation as of yesterday morning but won't be home for a few weeks yet. We are going to call her Sophia.

thanks all, it has been a bit of a shock, wife was admitted new years eve after having a few days in hospital before christmas. After her blood preasure was high they decided to deliver monday night 9 weeks early but both are doing well. She was 2lb 6oz's so a wee little monster.

how old are the birds and do you know they are a pair and not two hens etc? Phil

i would be suprised if they are kings free flying! Either catch them when it dark from there roost as said or build a trap where you can feed them into. Just remember though these birds will probably be hard to settle at your loft and you maybe better getting some youngbirds that you can keep tame and settle easily! Phil

Agreed Jack, there are to many selling birds from generations that have not only not raced but have not performed either as breeders or racers. Not all top racers make breeders and there are many breeders that have not raced but have proven themselves in the stock loft. When buying you need to know what you are looking for! Pedigree is only as honest as the person who wrote it but should give you an indication of the birds capability.
