no, imsure the pigeon fraternity would def. not be immpressed,, this is only but one nesting place , there are very many [far too many now] up and down the country,,,,,,,,,even to the extent of escaped birds of prey, causing, now, hybrid birds of prey , which are causing even more probs.,,,,,,,,,,when does this stop?

it seems that many members met there during the course of the two days , according to the webmaster, and of the many contacts i had , i would have loved to be there ,[unfortunately , couldnt make it due to illness] and put some faces to the names but it seems all the members had a good time , great to hear this

the price of this loft [kept them guessing long enough patty bhoy is £10,000 ,, maybe even , nearest offers ,, looks like larry lucas has the right idea

baytrill [allought a good broad spectrum, antibiotic,] should never be used without a top avian vets advice, treating willy nilly will only cause more problems

this can be quite a common occurance , if not watched very carefully , y,birds are farbetter seperated asap , at about 3 weeks old, when at this age , unfortunately the parents are much more interested in breeding again, , feeding in galley pots and watering in pots in the nest box ,as they grow, ensures the yb is well capable of feeding and drinking itself ,at this early age, unfortunately ,, if scalped very badly , found these yb,s never recover good enough to race well, and a very bad scar is left, [off course , depending on the severity of the" scalping" , it is a horrible sight, but if seperated or boxed in a warm place , the wound can dry up and the yb recover , very quickly , leaving nature to take its course quickly , ,,,,,unfortunately birds nesting on the floor, become the worst targets as babies ,, good luck with the y.b

sometimes youngsters bred at this time can race as good as any darkness yb, as long as their trained at 8 weeks old [or starting to train them] these yb,s will not be as far up with their flights as the older ones [unless on darkness] and the parents more chance of winning in the later , bigger races

Breaking 2 yr old birds to a new dovecote?
jimmy white replied to Monkey's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
hi, i hope the cock has retuurned by this time, but if not , maybe better getting a new mate for the hen, wait till their sitting on eggs then maybe try them then [one at a time] once their nesting theiy home easier,, good luck to you, the dovescote really looks the part -
i must say i do agree with tumley lofts post,, paying £40 for a pigeon that is bred from winners/prizewinners is great [ive seen these birds and they are topping birds,, its the £500 and £ 1000 birds that your not even sure what their bred from really , that begginners get gulled and think they can buy success , many are genuine sellers at reasonable prices , but there is the odd unscrupulous ones that quite easily gull the begginner , what gets me is some think, the more you pay, the better the bird, but in my opinion[and experience] this is not neccessary true
-
ive seen some of the tumley lofts jan aardens score at the distance , beautifull birds too
-
strange ring no,, wonder if anyone knows [i certainly dont ]
-
i think the best lines are any birds that are bred from 600 mile prizewinners,,,, some good buys, at the end of the year with latebreds direct off the prizewinners from that distance , at pretty reasonable prices really ,,,its patience after that
-
i know the price now ;D ;D ;D thanks patty bhoy, thunderboults not that far out ;D [probably well worth it ,if you had that kind of money ]
-
yip, another good tip
-
my goodness ;D ;D ;D a lot more than i could afford anyway ;D
-
first of all you need 600 mile bloodlines, next train single ups as yb,s as much as poss with just a few races. as yearlings raced lightly racing them with big jumps [missing each second race] as 2 year olds must do well from over 500 miles [roughly 5 races , b4 that. 3 year old , if their good enough,,[and still there ] 4 races ,,a good 8 hour fly about 3 weeks b4 event ,,,,,,,,,then pray ;D ;D ;D [in these 3 years single up training from east and west] its very hard to get birds that will win at that distance , but if they do, and are not burnt out as yb,s yearlings , the same bird will score again and again if treated right ,, but ,,as with pigeons,, theres many ways to skin a cat ;D
-
ill gove you £35 for it ;D ;D ;D its a beauty and a great price , there you are,, just goes to show [pardon the pun ;D ;D ;D] but a stunning looking bird
-
i think, to be honest, there are many honest fanciers, also many helpfull fanciers, it just dismays me slightly to see begginners paying very large prices, only to be very dissapointed at the end of the day
-
welcome to pigeon basics slatey look forward to seeing your posts ,, best of luck
-
in my opinion the prices of pigeons nowadays are completely crazy, ive found fantastic racing birds for very little, or even as presents and in the past when racing, knocked the socks of the newcommer who have paid a fortune from them so,,,,all that glitters is not gold [only to the seller ;D] in my opinion good pigeons can be aquired reasonably cheaply from good honest fanciers
-
;D maybe just a word of caution for any bigginners etc,, when all birds are selected,, mated etc ,,, how do you you def, know who the so-called sire is?,,,,, ive watched yearlings , all mated ok, but when out ,, a hen will go down for a tread , then like lightening,,,,,,,,another cock jumps on ,,,,,,,,,,,,,far better to either keep them in their boxes until they lay, [but that could cause a few broken eggs] or , best ,,let each pair out for a short time then back in their box, then repeat,,,,,,,,,, takes time,, but far better and surer
-
absolutely fantastic ,, well done to all
-
yes,, thats what i paid [nobilis],,,,,,,, columbo-vac seemingly beeing manufactured/distributed in june ??, but found nobilis ok , inject at the earliest age 5 weeks ,, dont like the job , but must be done
