jimmy white replied to jimmy white's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
;D ;D ;D definately wise ;D ;D especialy beware sunday ,, forcast,,,,snow ;D ;D ;D just eat the white stuff ;D ;D ;D -
i had these pigeons , many years ago, mostly jet blacks, the ones i had,, these ere excellent pigeons and supposed to be sprinters , but these birds scored in all distances up to 500 miles
-
well done theoc1,,,, and to alf for posting this info so quickly,,
-
now that, in my opinion is a good post ;D, i beleive fanciers are being conned right left and centre, the best things in life are free,, cleanliness , fresh air, clean water , and good sound grain to suit the job the pigeon has to do,,,
-
any more info on this? sounds interesting
-
very well put indeed old ,,, i beleive the lad should not be whapped by any kangaroo court, or mob attacked, but led in a proper manner, as i say in my post , if the lad is gennuine, hell get all the support in the world from our p,b,,,, members ,,,all he needs to do, is come clean , and accept the advise and help on pigeon basics
-
probably a good feed on a pigeon ,,, but a very good question i,b, ,, as far as i see it the only preditor that puts paid to the perigrine, is the eagle owl, these birds are not as dangerous as folks think, they live a very peacefull life [nesting in the same places as the perigrine, but will not tolerate any bird of prey near them, they will swoop up at roosting time and put paid to the perigrine,],,, i note the rspb dont put nest boxes out for these birds, they mainly come out at night, like all owls and feed mainly on rabbit, which are plentyfull, [they can be bought , fairly cheap from ads in the "cage and aviary, mag" off course you are not allowed to set them free, but quite a few have escaped , and will breed in the wild fairly easy, having a good food supply,, thee is some arguement as to whether these birds are native to brittain, therspb say no,, but top ornithologists say they most definately are,,, one thing for certain is,, if they are born in brittain they are brittish birds, and come under the same protection as other brittish birds ,,,or should anyway??

lovely loking yb.s , jason,, a good idea with the straw, as long as its really good straw, the birds seem to love this,, and as you say, when ready can clean the lot right out,, very good pics lovely wee pied ;D
-
well done indeed lads,, the loft seems to have got a good new owner
-
hm,,, i see what you mean p/hen,, it is the wrong way to go about things,, if lee was gennuinly wanting pigeons ,im quite sure he would get plenty help on this forum,,
-
i beleive that many of our so-called breeds can be very inbred,, any cross is worth trying from decent pigeons,, the hybrid vigour
-
sorry to here of your p f l ,,, just a shame you have to part with this loft,, some lucky person will surely be keen on this
-
this is what annoys me, the rspb putting up nest boxes for them all over,, this is not natural breeding ,, they seem to be making a hobby out of breeding them :-/
-
they seem to be all over now,, it was just a few weeks ago i posted something similar , a pair of perigrines diving and chasing hundreds of ferals [ i would assume some racers among them] in the nearby feilds to me,, these perigrines knocked about 5 to the ground , but continued "playing" with the rest of them in the air ,just chasing them, splitting them in to small batches untill all the pigeons eventually flew off , there were no birds to be seen in these feilds for a good week, i notice now a lot are back again,,strange behaviour as it didnt seem to be for hunger :-/

please note there is a thread on" sticky" ,,,above ,, on paratyphoid,, it certainly is one horrible desease, there is much to be learned by these two topics , will request they should be merged

first of all, your not a bad fancier , your asking advise and help, your not asking for abuse, as far as i see, sometimes members are better not replied to, as this is what they seem to thrive on, no one is perfect keeping pigeons , no matter how long you have, or have not kept them,, the best of fliers make the biggest bloomers , that im afraid is part of the game , however some learn by their mistakes others dont , as far as your 5 year old cock is concerned , he seems to have taken a real beating, the bird will probably be very stressed out,, possibly open to infections , my advice would be much the same as most that have replied , the bird will need boxed on his own, preferably in a warm quiet place,, i would try him with a little conditioner, with some glucose or honey in his water , lets hope he recovers and gains his condition and doesnt succumb to any higher count of cocci, or any stress related infections ,best of luck to you mate

maybe just a wee tip for novices ,, we had many gimmicks, medicines, you name it at b/pool , most cost a fortune, but the most important item , could not be bought at b/pool is fresh air in these days now of darkenning yb,s i have noticed many fanciers with too many young birds for the size of loft , too little ventilation for the amount of yb,s ,,,,, my opinion is do not get pulled into that trap,,,,have less y,birds and more ventilation. your yb.s will go through less stress and have more rest ,in completing their body moult , without daily fresh air, and cleanliness , pigeons will never come into superb racing condition ,,only my opinion

Picture Of One Of My Birds Comments Please :)
jimmy white replied to jazzman's topic in Members Photos
quite agree , practice makes perfect, my honest opinion would be , the pigeon being more central and a lighter background , but pretty good considering your age [i certainly couldnt do that anyway good luck to you -
this was a planet bros van loon ,, a son of a pigeon i bought called" dilligent " this bird itself had won very well, but also bred some very good pigeons [that particular son of dillegent won me about £3000,, and it was a late bred ]

ever tried to fit two wrongs sides of a thimble together [old fashioned ones] ;D ;D ;D its strange ;D you keep trying ;D instead of picking the right inside and outside proper closures ,,,,one time i lost a race by half an hour ;D ;D doing this [got a 4 ft trout as well ;D ;D ],,,,, but this does happen at times with the t3,,,,,,,,,, so all in all this thing looks pretty good ,, well to some ;D
