  1. glad to here from you bruno and as you point out sometimes we can become outdated [ i know i am haha] the qoute i printed was obviously an old one but really if i remember right it was sent to me around the year 2000, but i do notice on it, i tablet per gallon, not in litres ,but it was david palmer[as far as i know] who sent me this.as i am in a bit of a rush at the moment ill have a better look at your interesting points asap meanwhile what i have done just out of curiosity, is put some grain in a heavily stained coffee cup with a spoonfull of milton, and water just to see if it takes the stains out the cup, with the protein in it, will get back to you later . proffessor white ha ha cheers bruno
  2. thats good speedbird they seem to be ok now pleased for you jimmy
  3. i should imagine that as the hen came back, the cock will be somewhere in the area, looking for his home and mate if so, and he gets a glimpse of the hen ,hell be back, keep your eye outfor the cock ,if you see it , put the hen out if its any consolation ive seen them comming back3 to 4 days later, good luck to you any way jimmy
  4. there are far more male fanciers than female i think if you worked out the ratio per female fancier per result youll find that female fanciers come up trumps, they are far more patient with pigeons and ./have a way with them/ more than us males plus the fact they have common sense, which a lot of us, boys, havent got. surely thats worth a rating point samantha ha ha cheers jimmy
  5. bruno now this is a very interesting topic, so lets try and keep it a topic and not an arguement , to come out with [bleeding dumplin] [ see a phsychiatrist] [having to apologise on at least two previous posts ] [take a sick bird to a fellow fancier] are, to my mind not conducive to good and sensible debate, so without all that, we may discuss things in a reasonable fashion,. first of all lets be freinds and enjoy a good discussion, as i do beleive you have made some good points, and obviously done your homework.now as you were very pleased with the vet that treated your bird with the broken wing, why dont we consult a vet, to find out the answer to the use of milton.i have a reading here from DAVID PALMER the bhw vet,QUOTE,,, KEEP THE DRINKING WATER CLEAN. BIRDS INEV ITABLEY SWILL OUT THEIR MOUTHS WHEN DRINKING, AND WILL LEAVE ANY CONTAGIOUS,INFECTIVE ORGANISMS IN THE DRINKER FOR THE NEXT BIRD TO PICK UP.THE SPREAD OF CANKER, ORNITHOSIS AND MYCOPLASMOSIS IS PARTICULARLY EASY BY THIS ROUTE, BUT DROPPINGS LEFT IN THE WATER WILL SPREAD SALMONELLA, CANKER,E.COLI, YB .,SICKNESS,,OTHER BACTERIAL DISEASE AND P.M.V.THE WATER MUST BE KEPT FRESH AND CLEAN AND THIS IS ACHEIVED BY FREQUENT CHANGING OR THE USE OF A MILD HYPOCHLORITE DISINFECTANT, OF WHICH A TABLET OF #MILTON# PER GALLON WILL DO NICELY. UNQUOTE. now who are we to beleive,??, i have used milton on many occasions and found it does no harm whatsoever, now according to you it does nothing to the water. now if that is so, its not harming the birds. if its not harming the birds it may have a placebo effect on me, even if the vet IS wrong?? if i think it is doing good then it is [thats is the placebo effect ,IF the vet is wrong] its just my opinion on the matter, please beleive me when i say i dont want to argue, im sure youll agree that, that gets us nowhere beleive me,but i feel its good to debate without losing freinds. I SINCERELY WISH YOU WELL JIMMY
  6. no bruno i didnt get out the wrong side off bed, i just fell over my dictionary once i digest all you have written, it might take some time, i dont mean to be cheeky but its pigeon fanciers your talking to. not mp,s in the houses of parliament ,im actualy finding it all amusing, i allthough i do realise its a serious subject, and i really gennuinly find it interesting, let me have a good browze through, when i have time, and we can see what we make of it all all the best jimmy
  7. good luck to you snowy with your venture, at least your trying, and yes who knows, you might just have some thing there, and lets face it anything is worth trying to help a now declining sport, so i say good on you.
  8. well this is not technical geordie bain, as in bain wallace and spalding, were the first members along with davie rose to win a gold award ,and george was the man that advised me to use milton, as he used it regular, if it was good enough for him its good enough for me jimmy
  9. i see what your saying hyacinth but i was thinking more of the lines of a small village loft which every one that owned abird or two would have to be a member of a union , which would enhance the union membership.then this way they would all be partnership in club and fed ,but also have there own loft result, then maybe from there they would catch the bug, and eventualy race on their own im just talking about a loft with say 40 50 bird limit, just in a very small way just a thought jimmy
  10. going back to doostalker, i agree that there is good bacteria and bad bacteria, but the point i was trying to make was, when the crop is so infected, the bad bacteria are [winning] so to speak, and killing off the good bacteria, thats why the bird is so ill in the first place, the good bacteria becomes non existant , therefor the bird dies. so by killing all the bacteria, the bird will then naturaly build up its own immunity, which are good bacteria, all the topics on this subject are very interesting indeed and worth sifting through , the one thing we all agree on is the stress factor, keep the posts going and we can all learn by it,one other point was that years ago the yb nat was cheltenham which was about 300 miles im not nit picking at you bruno, the opposite, im finding your posts very interesting, good luck to all jimmy
  11. just out of curiosity ihave put a half teaspoonfull o milton in a pint of water and drank it , and i can tell you its done me a lot better than what i used to drink,at least i never had a hangover ha ha,try it?
  12. hi speedbird you were asking about electrlytes also known as re hydration salts , realy its like you taking diarolyte after having the runs, in fact diarolyte you could give to pigeons, it replaces the body salts etc that are lost after taking the runs and aids to a faster recovry hope thats of some help jimmy
  13. ive never been one for eyesign, probably because i dont know much about it, and realy never had an interest in itBUT brian may was in my house one time ,so we basketed 1 national winner 1 2nd national winner acouple of birds that had won short races and half a dozen rubish and to my amazement he was allmost spot on, he even said that one of the birds was inbred [which was in fact daughter to son, which he didnt know] and would score at the distance, the following year it did, i was gobsmacked to say the least, mind you the photograph of the 2nd nat winner was above his head, but to be fair he was as close as you could get, p.s im still not a beleiver.....but jimmy
  14. hi linda, i should imagine by this time youll be in denver hooping it up.?? youve certainly done well in all the races, so the best of luck in todays futiroty race, nip over and let me know the result. jimmy
  15. hi speedbird glad to hear birds a lot better maybe try some electrolytes in their water ittl do no harm jimmy
  16. it makes you wonder about all these yb losses and as most say ,if you dont get them in a reasonable time, you never see them at all, i know it sounds old fashioned ,but in the days of rail transportation, we never had any where near these losses, remember these birds were lifted from the train , usualy to the end of the platform, all the air they needed surrounded the baskets, the way they were laid out they could see the sun, plenty of rest then liberated, if it was bad weather they would be kept in the carriage, at the sidings, with all doors and windows open ,but i suppose progress is progress. dr beeching was not a pigeon fancier ha ha
  17. my own pennith worth on the moult is plenty of peice and quiet, plenty of baths , a higher protein diet and a handfull of linseed everyday, i would separate the birds ,with the cocks in the nest box section, and when it got near to the last flight up, iwould let them out on consecutive days.as at this time they have built up fat, when you think about it , in ,early january its not light till 9 and dark at330 ,so all they would do is sit on the perch fly down to feed, then up again, so its at this stage i woud exercise them, to keep excess fat off, and help the hens lay easier, when pairing up. but what i would say is try toget them in b4 one p.m as after this they begin to get a littly spooky, and could remain out all night especialy the hens just thinking ahead
  18. i would be tending to go along the lines of shadow, its actualy cheaper to have their droppings tested than to buy some of these things you may not really need, but remember their droppings will be a bit loose after a race, however it sounds as they are ok now, so the best of luck to you jimmy
  19. p.s. i love young paul carters saying,at the bottom of his posts . [ [ if you put the effort in your birds will be right in the end ] stick in son youll be there SOON jimmy
  20. i agree with the previous posts, and off course the membership is declining, no one can doubt that, its a completely differant age, and how do you manage this,? people dont seem to have the time now for racing pigeons, work commitments, new technology, and even the way kids are brought up, all point towards the decline of the sport, i often wonder [just a thought[ if there were more one loft races, where, the painter the baker the candlestick maker, or any bussinesses, anybody for that matter, could own a few pigeonsall racing to the one loft, which would also be a syndacate in a club fed etc where they could have a loft result ,a club result etc, im quite sure after seeing their own birds race, a lot of them would become interested and want to ,branch out on their own all you would need is a peice of ground, a manager [free] and a loft,if the local paper printed the loft result each week, im quite sure a few busseness men, would like a free advert , # i had a dream# jimmy white
  21. hi snowy agree with most of the posts , doostalker is def. on the right track. i simply peel garlic cloves, cut 2or 3 up put in lemonade bottle, hot water, not boiling [as would break bottle] no but seriously if you boil it you boil the natural ingrediant away which is allicin, i have a leaflet some where? which i will look out ..... the virtues of garlic,,,, will print later . jimmy
  22. you can put photos on new forum its allways a laugh,,p.s hope birds went well to day jimmy white
  23. hi snowy you can give ordinary pigeon vits once a week also cider vineger or garlic are good for keeping birds healthy, any of these things are quite cheap but i think its more important to have a dry well ventilated loft cheers jimmy
