The Aarden based strains, to be honest I have a mish mash, although Van Der Wegen and Van Wanroy seems to crop up quite often in pedigrees.
-
Yes I agree, no such thing as "pure this" or "pure that", just familes of birds bred to do well at approx 100mls or 400mls.

What, 700mls? All I can do is speak as I find, and that is Busschaerts seem to do better at the distance than Janssens, certainly where I live... mind you, Holland, Devon ain't. ;D
-
Yes, not many, I'm more interested in distance.

I'd say the Janssen strains are faster over the shorter distances some are super fast, I've never doubted their sprint potential. Busschearts are fast too but they seem to excel at about 200-300mls and they have a bit of distance about them (Chris Gordons' "Snydale" champions have Pearson & Dransfield Busschaerts in them...700ml winners) which make them better in my mind because they have the potential to win nearly every race in the programme.

Rory, I don't think Ben is old enough to drink cider! ;D ;D

I've used G10's for 2 seasons now, have found the babies really thrive on them and the stock look good with several rounds under their belt. The birds took to them from the word go which pleased me. I add 15% to my breeding mix.

"ZORRO" Is a Busschaert, original George Busschaert I'm pretty sure.
-
Yes its 5ml (one full teaspoon) per litre, use for 24 hrs or up to 3 days.

If she is nodding back at the cock it is a very good sign, a pinch of hemp each for them will help things along, other than that its just a matter of time. You are new to it, I remember what I was like, all excited like an expectant father ;D ;D

Hi Lawrie, How old are the birds? if they're latebred youngsters they might still be sexually imature. With all birds old or young they will take a while to get used to a new loft, once they're happy enough they'll most probably take to one another (providing you haven't two cocks or two hens!) Are you feeding a good quality mix? Try feeding them a little hemp and adding B12 to the water. The days are very short now, not to mention cold, have you any lights in the loft, you could try extending the birds daylight hours (thats if you haven't already done that). I think the main issue here is that the birds are in a new environment and that it's just a matter of them settling. If you just have the two birds in the section together I wouldn't lock them in together, not yet anyway. Good luck, I'm sure you will get more advice on here. Peter.

whats the best meds to treat bacterial infections?
GROVEHOMER replied to DJ's topic in Products & Medication
DJ, put 2 or 3 garlic cloves in a litre drinker for 5-7 days, also give them pro-biotics (strike) on their corn.Better than giving them antibiotics, hope this works for you, I reckon it will! -
Has anyone got the Hawkeye loft management system, and can you make up your own race sheets (compatible with whatever club you're in)?
-
I wanted to go through all the birds and especially the loft structure with the new breeding season not too far away.

Baths planned for tomorrow. The only birds showing any signs of infestation were birds recently bought in (only a mild lice problem, which as we know, will become worse if untreated) The birds are clean now, so at least I know double strength works! ;D ;D

Chrissy, I haven't got Quill mite, in fact the only problem I've ever had with quill mite is from other fanciers birds...I know the title of this thread is "Quill mite" but "Chlorocarb" is mentioned in eradicating this menace as well as other feather vermin. Recently I dipped my birds and sprayed my loft, as part of my routine medication regime. I hope this clears up any confusion.
-
Fair enough Alf, glad it worked for you. Isn't a bucket 2 gallons (approx 10 litres, that would be the correct dip strength but only half strength of loft treatment.
-
Yes Bruno' "synergised extracts" (more than one extract, gaining effectivness from being mixed with one another) This solution dried my hands out, it had a lime effect on my skin (until I rinced it off). I once read of a product made from ground fossils ( F.S FOSSIL or something like that, can't remember the exact name). It aparrently bogged down the mite, with basically the same effect baby oil has on human hair lice....I wonder if Chlorocarb is the same kind of thing, if so, I reckon it's safe enough, my birds don't look adversely effected.
-
Does anyone know the active ingredients of Chlorocarb?..I dipped birds in the same strength solution as I sprayed the loft out with, the dip solution should've been half the strength of the loft spray, I've been a bit worried that I could've harmrd the birds in some way. :

Thanks very much Mr. J. Bamling.

If anyone knows the name and tel. number of the West Durham Amalgamation secretary, could you please P. M. me? I need a photocopy of the 2005 Bourges race (25th June, 12.00 lib). Any help would be appreciated. Peter.

Frank, if Micheal Burden has Eric Fox birds, he lives in Uttoxeter, is a member of the NFC and has appeared on the NFC discussion forum recently. He timed quite a few reds in from Tarbes this year, reds appear in alot of Chris Gordons' birds do they originate from Eric Fox or Chris Gordons' friend in Wales or am I barking up the wrong tree? Hope this helps.
