  6. It's difficult to say how many pigeons, I think last year there were maybe a hundred pigeons. This is the info from their website: Sandringham Game & Country Show 12th - 13th September The Game and Country Show was a new event for Sandringham, and we are delighted that it will be returning this September. Whole areas devoted to falconry, fishing, wildfowling, archery and many other country sports and pursuits, together with lots of activities for families (and their dogs!) makes this event a true celebration of country living. The Game and Country Show takes place in Sandringham Park, so please be aware that it is not at the Visitor Centre. Satellite navigation: please use postcode PE35 6EN and then follow the Craft Show signs to the entrance to Sandringham Park. Open 10am - 6pm; adults £9, seniors £8, children £4. Further details from www.livingheritagecountryshows.co.uk. Let me Google that for you.
  7. Well it's on Saturday and Sunday, at Sandringham Park, it's usually sign-posted.
  8. King's Lynn Fur & Feather Society are holding a competitive show and a display of Fancy Pigeons at Sandringham this weekend. It's a great show, with lots to see, lots of crafts and steam engines and various animals, usually some nice pigeons on display. Worth dropping by if you are in the area.

    eagle owl

Yeah I just found their approach to it interesting, as I considered the Eagle Owl to be a magnificent bird of prey, I've seen captive bred ones in flight, I never thought of them as a threat to domestic pets. :-/

  11. Hi Chaz, I had a pair of these, my wife liked them because they had little "perms", as she called them, and we got a pair. They are nice pigeons and they could fly, but they didn't spend a lot of time on the wing, some people think that kicking around on the roof of the house is flying, to me that's just decorative, which is what I considered the owls to be. Unfortunately, when we moved house, we didn't really have the space for them and they had to go.
  12. It is a colour pattern in tippler pigeons. You can read about them at the National Federation website and there are photos in their gallery: http://www.national-federation.co.uk/brief_description.htm#EXHIBITION_FLYING_TIPPLER

  16. I'm good thanks Chazz. Yeah, its a funny thing, some people call them mosaics, some people call them opals. I don't suppose it matters, but if you want to breed more of them, then I reckon it is handy to know the mode of inheritance.
  17. It is a recessive opal blue cheq.
  18. 1) Depending on how many birds, they can get by on 10 or twenty minutes a day once you have established a routine, but it is a good idea to spend longer with them, observing them, making sure they are all getting fed and watered, and so on. Also, it is just pleasurable to spend time with them. 2) It's a matter of choice really, and adapting your facilities to the choice you have made. Best thing to do is to get chatting with people who keep the breed you would like to keep, find out how they do things, the different methods etc... 3) Again, it's down to what you can afford/are prepared to spend, and the space you can afford to devote to them. Some people get along just fine with rabbit hutch style boxes, but these perhaps wouldn't be suitable for some breeds with feathered feet and such like. I suppose ideally, you would want something like a six by ten, divided into two large sections and a smaller section for food storage etc.., and a couple of pens. This way you can rotate them, breeding section/young bird section, then cocks/hens. 4) Visit as many shows as you can, find out who has regular success with the breed(s) you hope to keep, talk with them and ask as many questions as they are prepared to answer, obtain the best stock you can afford. You may find this forum helpful, it is all about fancy breeds: http://fancypigeonchatter.forumakers.com/forum.htm
