Age Determination The chart data is calculated using the following averages: 13 days for each primary flight feather to molt in fully for birds under one year of age; 30 to 40 days average for each each bird to begin it's molt. Example: you obtain a young pigeon which you determine has the 5th primary flight as the last molted feather. Also assume the bird started the molt at 30 days of age. Using 13 days average molt time - multiply 5 by 13 which equals 65. It took 65 days for the bird to molt these first 5 primary flights on both wings. Using Sept 15 subtract 65 days - you get a date of July 13. Subtract another 30 days for age the bird began this juvenile molt & the estimated hatch date is June 13th. SEPTEMBER 15th (use this date for both charts) Primary Flight Feather # Molt Average is 13 days Bird Age 30 days Estimated Age Estimated Date of Hatching using Sept 15 1 (1 X 13 = 13) 13 + 30 43 days old (Sept 3 minus 30 days) August 3rd 2 (2 X 13 = 26) 26 + 30 56 days old (Aug 21 minus 30 days) July 21st 3 (3 X 13 = 39) 39 + 30 69 days old (Aug 8 minus 30 days) July 8th 4 (4 X 13 = 52) 52 + 30 82 days old (July 26 minus 30 days) June 26th 5 (5 X 13 = 65) 65 + 30 95 days old (July 13 minus 30 days) June 13th 6 (6 X 13 + 78) 78 + 30 108 days old (June 30 minus 30 days) May 30th 7 (7 X 13 = 91) 91 + 30 121 days old (June 17 minus 30 days) May 17th 8 (8 X 13 = 104) 104 + 30 134 days old (June 4 minus 30 days) May 4th 9 (9 X 13 = 117) 117 + 30 147 days old (May 22 minus 30 days) April 22nd 10 (10 X 13 = 130) 130 + 30 160 days old (May 9 minus 30 days) April 9th Primary Flight Feather # Molt Average is 13 days Bird Age 40 days Estimated Age Estimated Date of Hatching using Sept 15 1 (1 X 13 = 13) 13 + 40 53 days old (Sept 3 minus 40 days) July 24th 2 (2 X 13 = 26) 26 + 40 66 days old (Aug 21 minus 40 days) July 11th 3 (3 X 13 = 39) 39 + 40 79 days old (Aug 8 minus 40 days) June 29 4 (4 X 13 = 52) 52 + 40 92 days old (July 26 minus 40 days) June 16th 5 (5 X 13 = 65) 65 + 40 105 days old (July 13 minus 40 days) June 3rd 6 (6 X 13 + 78) 78 + 40 118 days old (June 30 minus 40 days) May 20th 7 (7 X 13 = 91) 91 + 40 131 days old (June 17 minus 40 days) May 7th 8 (8 X 13 = 104) 104 + 40 144 days old (June 4 minus 40 days) April 25th 9 (9 X 13 = 117) 117 + 40 157 days old (May 22 minus 40 days) April 12th 10 (10 X 13 = 130) 130 + 40 170 days old (May 9 minus 40 days) March 29th hope this helps you understand about telling the age of a pigeon with out a ring ,this can be worked out by any day of breeding a young pigeon ;D

i prefer to select pairings has i only breed from my stock birds ,use my race team as feeders.

people will sell anything if theres a pound in it for them ,the trouble with people selling animals they normally go from one thing to another for bigger monies with no regard for the animals welfare .problem with pigeons they breed none stop so a good income and birds always available for any price
-
fantastic ,some great birds by top fanciers well done all .

karl i would say buy in confidence from anyone selling birds on here ,you can ask questions to the seller ,i know there seems to be alot of negativity around but 99.9 % are genuine fanciers on here .im sure if you ask questioons and the seller didnt seem genuine im sure someone on here would warn you .
-
i would say 99.9 % of sellers on here are genuine fanciers , i have only seen one scumbag rip of dovescote.but lets be honest here ,all people selling pigeons on here are near enough regular fanciers, just selling pigeons on for what ever reason ive seen some cracking looking birds on here that look real bargains for the price been offered sure you dont know what it will breed but you never know it could be the best bird you ever buy . has for a third party been involved in buying off here ,i would have no problem if buying dealing with the man in question direct ,using a third man tells me you might be questioning there honesty,if i got stung yes i would let the forum know by who and how much just to make other people aware .

the bird tells you nothing ,only the man racing or owning the bird can tell you this, people selling birds can only tell you there good birds has no one sells crap.people have the right to ask questions when parting with their monies for anything be it a £1.00 or a thousand . i have asked someone on here about a couple of things which i knew to be wrong when he placed replys to questions .i have no problem with this man selling pigeons be it for a pound or thousands ,or anyone selling pigeons yes i think sometimes where do they get there prices from for a bird ,but if you pay for instance 10.000 for a bird are you going to sell birds for 25.00 from it .i think the price would be higher to help recoup monies paid for bird nothing wrong with that .theres people who dont race but just sell fashion pigeons just for a money making idea you just have to look around the weekly papers of birds for sale ,thousands sold off birds that have never been out never mind seen a basket but people buy what they can afford . if someone sells you a pigeon for 25.00 or a thousand and its rubbish is he bothered ,you will blame the fancier and he will blame you

If an event is held illegally, the penalty on summary conviction is imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months, or a fine not exceeding level 5 (£5,000) on the standard scale fixed by the Criminal Procedure (Scotland) Act 1995, or both

i agree totally and with tammy,DEFRA will not be happy with going on ,when people go against them ,they will bring stricter laws in which could effect us all .i bet they wouldnt think it was so clever if DEFRA turned up on basket night or stopped transporter wanting to verify all birds had been vacinated and one hundred other things they could use to examine their birds. :-/ :-/ :-/

i dont use medication only has stated the difference is i think with most people have to many birds ,bring many birds from different lofts ,bringing many things in from these lofts.still i have only a small team of pigeons i dont bring pigeons into me loft ,at this present time i only have seven pairs of pigeons in my loft which is 24 foot long by eight foot . i like to look on racing pigeons has my hobby in which i can enjoy help me de stress after a hard days work .i dont want it to become horse work ,believe me theres more to pigeons then it becoming a obsession with winning ,good husbandry love your birds and they will repay you ;D ;D
