    How Many ?

Stock pigeons should be breeding good pigeons, after all that is why they are supposedly in the stock loft for, when I hear of people keeping 24 pair, 30 pair etc I know a lot of birds are there for their pedigrees only has how can that many pair of stock breed winners, its hard enough to get a few pair, we got 9 pair (majority are retired racers) and last year 6 pair bred at least 1 first prize winner and 8 pair bred pigeons to score in the first 4 at club level, the only pair that were not sucessful were a pair that in previous years had bred very good pigeons ?........In the past we have kept birds because there grandfather/grandmother were big winners but not now they must breed prizewinners, that is why they are there, even good racers never make it in the stockloft we have disposed of birds that have won 6 x1sts, 7 x 1sts etc simply because they never bred anything decent.
  14. my m8 brought a couple and fetched them last Friday, superb condition when I handled them Saturday with 2 flights to go
  15. thats me counted out, I got no transport
  16. I tried ringing mate, I am after a few hens, its says the number is not recognised.
  17. I used a well known brand of widowhood corn m8, i broke the percentage down and brought the main grains (maize, peas, wheat, dari, milo, safflower, tares etc) in 25kg bags and mixed my own its a lot cheaper with the added advantage is that because u are choosing your own grains you can get the best available............if a few are interested Klaus get a price of the others as well as Cosworth, I know BJF feeds mix their own and I am sure they will give you and your clubmates a quote, I am sure there are plenty others out there too maybe other members know of them ?
  18. coswoth stud have there own mixer Klaus, speak to Mark he will give u a price.
  19. I always purchased Versele Laga but like everyone got sick to the back teeth of increasing costs so decided to put my trust in a local corn supplier who I believe grows most of his own stuff, I have been using his moulting mix (£8 a bag) and have added to it a little black rape and if I am honest the birds look as well as they have ever done, my darkness birds have 1's and 2's to go and what I have noticed is that the birds are not as heavy as they were in previous years, maybe it is because of the higher barley content (about 15%).......I suppose I will know if I have made the correct decision when the old bird season arrives however looking at them they look really well :-)................I worked for a corn supplier for 4 years mixing corns and you would be suprised how many top flyers purchased their grains separate and asked me to mix them for them in the mixer, a well known corn supplier from abroad produce a leaflet with a percentage breakdown of each grain in their mixes, u can purchase the grains separately and mix the corn for around £3 a bag cheaper, or if your local corn supplier has its own mixing machine ( we have one around the midlands ) I am sure they will mix your requirements , providing you have a few bags, I was told 10 bags when I asked, it was still a couple of quid cheaper that way and also your mix will contain the same contents in all 10 bags.

  22. My m8 is always entering competitions and to be fair has won some pretty decent stuff including video games and tickets for decent sport matches, however about 6 weeks ago he gets a large box delievered to the door which he has to sign for, excitedly he tears the box open to find.................................................................a 20ft x 4ft Weetabix banner, lmao.......he said it was even worse than the signed Lenny Henry golf shoes lol.. We have had some decent wins this year but would say the highlight would be taking the first 20 in the club and federation when 25 from the 31 entered arrived together, it frightened the life out of me when they all folded up and were knocking each other off the landing board lol.
  23. Lovely birds Chris, in great codition, good luck with them mate.
  24. We have confined our birds to the lofts all winter and gave no baths, they still moult out and won as yearlings/old birds...in fact we entered them last season in the Midland show racer society show and won 3 of the 4 classes entered...............I am not going to say this is the correct way but this is what we do and it works so why change it ?
