Thanks Pete, she is doing fine just now, I use a herbal spay to clean any wounds and we have her isolated in a good bed of shredded paper. I know that euthanizing would probably be the best in most cases but I think that the hawk has then beat me by making me the killer otherwise I would just be better leaving the hawk to do it so it will be given all the best care and treatment to help it recover, so fingers crossed :-/

I believe that is why Sparrow hawks attack whites more that other colour as they stand out a lot more but they will and do attack any colour. I think the ferals mostly slate blue blend into the roof tops and buildings as well as being street wise helps, one thing for sure is there is never a shortage of them :-/ Once the hawk has it's sights set they are tunneled visioned and follow the birds regardless and they are living in built up areas so they are not as frightened of humans getting too close either :-/

We are exactly the same, we missed this years racing and have been told by most that it is best to get them at least used to the baskets, crates and short tosses.

The lavender keeps them away from the nests but not the drinkers, my husband says it smells like a poo#s loft and the colours don't help my defence;D ;D ;D YB section ;D

Is it not just the case that when technology first comes out it is really expensive and in time it becomes a lot cheaper. We priced them at Blackpool in 2007 and they were about that price but as a lot have said they are getting cheaper and maybe the recession is bringing them down a bit like most things nowadays :-/ We paid over £1000 for a 42" rear screen projector tele which was a deal at the time and it got damaged and the insurance only paid out £500 as that is what a replace costs :-/

Yes we use it all the time, I go round my neighbours gardens at this time of the year and trim their lavender bushes and store it for nesting. My husband has also cut 3 oak barrels in half and we have planted them with lavender as well

Thanks Kev, we live on the edge of a country and a huge woodland area so we accept that we have to live along with wildlife and nature. We have all types of predators around our area; sparrow hawks, buzzards, kestrels, cats, foxes, badgers all having the right to live but as soon as they attack anything in my garden then I think I have the right to protect what is mine and I will as best as I can and within the law. Saying that we are lucky that we don't get many sparrow hawk attacks as we have two pair of buzzards and loads of crows that mob them when they come into the area. A sad fact is that the sparrow hawk attacks our birds and damages it then the crows and buzzards mod the hawk and they then take advantage of the damaged bird :(

Yes we mix cider viniger and honey but only in the colder months but not in the warm ones as it attracts the wasps and the flies to the drinkers:)

Pigeons are the same as humans, winners, breeders, sprinters and distance, feeding fasting and treating all are governed by chance. No matter what you have any can make it or not as the case may be for all sorts of reasons, gift/free birds topping the cards and golden pedigrees doing nothing in the same lofts under the same regime we all just live the dream :) :)
