BLACKPOOL AND BIRMINGHAM JOIN WEST HAM GOING DOWN

New British and Commonwealth super-middleweight champion George Groves says he made James DeGale "run out of ideas" in their grudge match on Saturday night. Groves earned a narrow majority decision victory after a closely-fought contest with the Olympic gold medallist at the O2 Arena in London. The 23-year-old put in a more measured display than many expected, often tagging DeGale from distance rather than try and draw him into toe-to-toe exchanges. And despite the tight scorecards - with one judge calling it even and the other two favouring Groves by a point - the Londoner was always confident of victory. "We had a gameplan to go in there and outbox James and outthink James," he told Sky Sports News. "And I knew that he'd run out of ideas pretty soon, and he did. He was clueless. He resorted to just ploughing forward in the end and it was almost down to me to throw it away. http://img.skysports.com/11/05/496x259/groveswins-800_2599596.jpg

The Premier League's relegation battle reaches a climax this weekend as the final day of the season brings Survival Sunday. Five teams at the bottom of the table are fighting to avoid joining West Ham in the Championship next term with Wigan, Blackpool, Birmingham, Blackburn and Wolves all in the mire. Wolves and Blackburn meet at Molineux but their position is not as precarious as the other sides involved in the battle to stay in the top flight. Birmingham face an extremely tough trip to Tottenham, while Blackpool, despite a fine win last time out, are up against it as they go to champions Manchester United.http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif Meanwhile, can Wigan produce another big effort when they travel to FA Cup finalists Stoke? It is all set up for a nervy afternoon. Blackpool managed a thrilling 4-3 victory over Bolton last weekend but they remain in the bottom three going into the final game. And what a final game it is for Ian Holloway's men - away at Manchester United. United were crowned champions last time out and Sir Alex Ferguson will opt to rest some players with the UEFA Champions League final looming large on the horizon. The Tangerines have only slipped into trouble in the last few weeks after a phenomenally entertaining campaign that has shocked and surprised many. A number of neutrals will be rooting for them at Old Trafford, but can they pull off a truly remarkable escape? http://img.skysports.com/11/05/402x210/Survivial-Sunday-Relegation-Battle-Panel-800_2598605.jpg
