  1. just wondered if a pigeon flies faster the first mile of a race or the last mile,,,,,anyone know
  2. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  3. this is the story of four members of a club ,,,their names were ...anybody,,,,nobody,,everybody and somebody ;D there was an important job to be done, and everybody was asked to do it, everybody was sure somebody would do it . anybody could have done it, but nobody did it,, somebody got angry at that, because it was everybodies job. everybody thought that anybody could do it, and nobody realised that everybody wouldnt do it. it ended up that everybody blamed somebody, when actualy nobody blamed anybody ;D ;D ;D phew,, think about it ;D ;D ;D
  4. my clock didnt interfere with the birds ,,just me ,,,the big hand hit me on the head ;D ;D ;D this came from a scottish strain ,,the strain station
  5. fly spray ,,,when birds are out
  6. first of all vic, i admire your wit,, pmsl scottish strain -flying scotsman ;D ;D ,,and the milk ;D ;D ;D,,, but as your post suggests it is an interesting subject,,,but keep chipping the baskets though ;D wood chips not any other kind [im sure my 24 stone mate , hope he doesnt see this puts another kind of chips in the baskets] [he hides his chips , hes an eataholic ;D] over the last 15-20 years yb losses have steadily got worse , my opinion first is were now breeding birds with less constitution, mollycoddling them, medicating them willy nilly,,,but maybe this is just one pointer to the horrendous slaughter of the innocents each year now, it does make you wonder at times, whats going through the air , with this modern technology ,its a pity the scientists [im just an amatuer one ;D] could not get together WITH the pigeon fliers and go into many different things , the losses were still gong up b4 the ets [Every one Trying Something] but proof , is the word,, and we have none
  7. aologies dicky darky , your quite right
  8. good luck tammy and chris, once you get organized im sure youll find a loft [or hut ,,garage ] in the yellow paper , youll be able to convert [my mate got one for £50, 20 ft long 10 ft wide] he has a loft now anyone would be proud of
  9. i agree entirely , well done chris
  10. best thing is ,, no overcrowding, cleanliness,[spray every day with virkon s ] and less stress as pos. many good points above in treatment ,,nystan , etc but are we breeding softies nowadays with less constitution than of old
  11. very well done,, the 3 birds not on the fed result ,,,,,,,,,deserve better ,, has that club rule been ratified by the union?
  12. the lothians ,,,,low cloud ,light mist [if it went away it wouldnt be mist ;D] but looks as though the sun trying hard to get through, ,,,,,,,my thoughts are the sun could burn this off later [i hope] no wind

  19. great going,,,,very well done ,congrats on a great ob season
  20. yes itll be a toughy , but sometimes they really surprise you best of uck to all
  21. difficult race, itll take good genuine pigeons to fly this and be on result [which i think most will be tomorrow morning ] but i think the winning birds up this way will be in after 8pm [probably well after ],,,best of luck to all [dig the overcoats out ]
  22. "the big moult" usualy starts after the pigeons throw their 6th flight , usualy it throws its first flight after sitting 10 days on its second round of eggs ,off course this is the reason w,hood cocks are put on w,hood roughly after sitting 8 to 10 days as this does retard the moult , also natural birds, paired up in april should be throwing their second flight now , and in condition for classic races ,,,,,,,,,but when the big moult does start its feathers and more feathers
  23. really rotten when this happens, but allthough they heal quite well, their allways left with a bad scarring on the head, pesonally , never found them to be great at racing , but for breeding ok,
  24. allways heard these as protein lumps , but as post above suggests ,it usualy only affects one bird ,so i have allways doubted that , however tying cotton thread around the base of it will stop the blood suppjy to it,, and itll just fall off ,
  25. i wouldnt use ebsom salts for pigeons, especialy after a race , i would much rather use something to firm up their droppings than make it worse
