I have been recommended using Baytril...
just ask me replied to PIGEON2009's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
mate dont even go there batrill is on excellent product but not for this yes it can be used for these but its not recommend by any vet i know for cancer and the likes there are loads of threads here there are a lot better ways -
reason why it was locked is on bottom of realted thread
-
reason left on bottom of thread

there not a new starter by far i can understand people doing for para and the likes but would it not even be good for a youngster to get a little cancer im not talking about full blown out if u know what i mean surely this i how immunity is build up and to treat for respiratory i cant really see the point in that at all maybe im over reacting but where does it end a course of baytril when u wean them i can understand people treat during racing season some agree some dont but i can see where they are coming from but surely a 20 day old pigeon treating for cancer and all is wrong
-
what would u treat for
-
yep true there if we were to feed or kids antibiotics every time they got a sniffle where would we be i asked why he done this he said his mate does it i said why does he do it to clean them out and he could see noting wrong with this comment don't think there was any point in telling him other wise
-
u are right Richard sorry i said earlier that the person should be named and shamed as a witch hunt or worse could occur as sometimes speculation and rumours are well known to happen with things like this
-
sold few youngsters weaning age talk to him a week later he tells me he has done them for cancer worms respiratory i asked why he said he does all his young when they are weaned why would anyone do this now i can understand why some people treat during racing weather that be right or wrong its not kinda the point im making surely at this young age its the time that the babies come across a few different things and there immune system is build up i would understand if a youngster was sick but surely there is no need to treat for this at this age it just baffles me as i cant see any reason for doing this what does he gain and just for reference i posted a pic of two young birds on this site they were of the same round they look well bred youngsters to me i'm just baffled
-
well id say there looking for ones with plenty of members so some dont have to worry
-
hope they can really do

Basket Training YBs
just ask me replied to Speckled Jim's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
i put them in the basket as earlly as possible and leave them outside the loft then put hamper up on landing board they drop in through holes then i go 10 feet back they fly to landing board in throuh trap what i would say about weaning them off in a basket is id be afraid they bond to the basket before the loft and i think the first bond shoud be to the loft -
i think who ever it is should be named and shamed if proven
-
its a quarter of a 250 mg tablet and a pigeon and for bad Case's id go as far to say half a tablet would be enough would even say a quarter would do the job

this is disgraceful and if it comes out that anyone in pigeons is involved or has personal gain as has been suggested what a shame that would be
-

different type of pigeons for different days simple to say sprint birds are not real pigeons i suppose usain bolt not a real runner ive won plenty of races 500 mile some big races races too but i tell ya im sprinting now and the competition is mighty fierce and these sprint birds are bred for a different purpose would some of mine do 500 mile i don't know but then again would some of the birds that i had a few years back that did win big at 500 mile sprint the way these can i don't know either all i can say is both are trying both won at there respective fields i think what i am trying to say is i have raced both 500 mile and 150 200 mile sprints would i value one over the other i dont think so i know a lot will disagree with me here but each type of bird has there own attributes but to say sprint birds are not real pigeons i think is wrong we have enough trouble with in our sport between falling members hawks politics and the rest without trying to divide our own membership between sprint and distance we are all fanicers
-
it is nice to put a bird in your hand and it fit the type that u like but i would go along with others here its what in there head and hart
