West of Scotland by Full Circle

David Davidson and son Rigside

To spotlight the west of Scotland pigeon personality of the year would be an unenviable task but one fancier with a strong claim to the honour would be David Davidson .His is a name we have come to expect in every national prize list and since 1925 when he was 3rd SNFC Rennes at his first attempt he has seldom Dissappointed is .It was with these thoughts in mind that I travelled through to this remote corner of Lanarkshire .A mere 20 old birds and 20 young birds were housed in a modest 18 ft loft ,but what this team lacked in numbers it more than made up for in quality ,Of the 20 old birds 10 had flown Rennes or Nantes ,2 Guernsey and 5 were yearlings flown Weymouth .Pride of place is shared between two 2yo hens ,RCH 5207 and blue hen 5225.

5207 arrived from Rennes at 8-12 pm to win 3rd West Section 7th open and £301 .Of medium size strong eyesign and was sent 14 days on eggs ,second flight half grown .

5225 was timed at 4-23 pm 2 nd day Nantes winning 10th section 81st open ,She was 2nd Weymouth in 1956 and 2nd weymouth 1957 both times beaten by a loft mate .5225 is a lovely hen of striking appearance ,From David's comments I feel this hen will carry most of his hopes in next years national .

Two other outstanding performers this year were blue hen 53.11419 timed at 9 pm Rennes 77th Open and £251 .Last year 7th Section ,51st Open and £94 ,And a fine red Cheq cock 54.11877 ,a prise winner from Nantes .He and the blue hen 5225 were the lofts only two entries in this race .They were mated together and sent to hatching Eggs

Good reading mick I think Davy Angus doos had a big influence on quite a few lofts . I wonder if Matt whites mealy Hen scotch queen 1980 Rennes winner had the Angus blood in her? She won Rennes in a north west wind into paisley for me was a bit special.

Not sure if Scotch Queen had Angus blood in her, but if I remember correctly, Jim Hamilton of Ferniegair bloodlines had an influence in her breeding.

Gazette March 1950

J Hamilton Ferniegaire

Good wee write up included was

For the past 4years he has been the leading prize winner in the Lanarkshire Social Circle and for almost 10 Successive years was never out of the first 30 in the SNFC

Also 1st section 3rd open Dol with Wee Kate ,a remarkable feature about this she did not have a mate and flew to the YB loft where she quickly resented all approaches by the young cocks

An exceptional fancier - he won the Lanarkshire Social Circle gold cup 3 times. His son, also Jim, that I referred to in my previous post took over the management of the loft after the death of his father, he too won the gold cup in LSC.
