frank-123 Posted October 14, 2015 Report Posted October 14, 2015 RACING PIGEONS SHOT DUMFRIESSHIRE FANCIERS' HEAVY LOSSES It is suspected that valuable racing pigeons belonging to a number of fanciers in Annan and Dumfriesshire have been indiscriminately shot. After half a dozen birds had gone amissing, one pigeon belonging to a Bridekirk owner arrived back atr its loft badly injured from gunshot wounds. It is recovering. Mr J. Kirkpatrick, Annan, reports the loss of two pigeons, one a young bird which won last year's Cheltenham race. Mr Halliday, of Bridekirk, ,lost three of his best, and Mr George Jackson, secretary of the Annan Homing Club, two. Mr Wm. Gass, well-known Annan pigeon fancer, told a "Sunday Post" reporter that the casualties had all occurred to lofts in the northern area of the town of Annan. " There is no excuse for ignorance. These birds are easily recognisable. Apart from their own value, many of them are valuable breeders, and are taking part at present in Home Guard exercises."
