REDCHEQHEN Posted March 16, 2015 Report Posted March 16, 2015 September 2013 I had a (very) minor accident which was not my fault (honest LOL!!!) The person who caused the accident was in a works van - stopped without indicating - (just pulled up) and then reversed into me, he was a young man playing music on headphones and couldn't hear me sounding my horn - there was someone behind me and I couldn't go anywhere as the works van decided to reverse into the drive of a house I happened to be in front of To cut a long story short my number plate was damaged (car classed as illegal to drive as crack was through the numbers) and my bumper had a crack in it I've had several phone calls about this mountain of money that has been put aside for my 'Level 1 discomfort', and is there any reason why I haven't claimed it Because I haven't suffered any discomfort This last week alone I have had several phone calls and 2 today alone. The last phone call - told me they were the insurance company of the insured whose fault the accident was - so I told the company I was going to inform the insured that his insurance company was hassling me - and I was also complaining to the police that I was being incited to commit fraud - to which this person said I would have difficulty proving that - and I said (bluffing) I had recorded all the conversations - had he not realised - I have left a message for the company whose fault it was that their insurance company is trying to get me to make a claim for 'discomfort' (up to £3000 can be awarded without requiring any medical evidence and that amount has been set aside) What is it all about - and why won't they just leave me alone? My phone only rings from someone wanting to hassle me about: PPI (Am I the only person in the world who has never had PPI?) Green issues (why don't 1 want to get paid for the energy I produce through having these bl**dy ugly things sat on my roof - cos I don't want them...) A free boiler - I wouldn't be entitled - to because I am not on tax credits or means tested benefits Or the silent phone calls - the phone rings and there's nobody there - keep happening from a firm in Spennymoor who evidently is a loan company and another finance company in America (1471 gives me the numbers for them, but most are number withheld) Anybody else have these problems and how do you handle them?
Ian McKay Posted March 16, 2015 Report Posted March 16, 2015 Buy yourself BT8500 phones and job sorted they are cheap on ebay refurbishedNot had 1 call since :emoticon-0137-clapping:
OLDYELLOW Posted March 16, 2015 Report Posted March 16, 2015 I simply tell them to remove me from their call list any further calls will be deemed as harassment and will start to incur costs and as they are now aware of my scheduled billing for nuisance phone calls they stop
buster151 Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 Get them constantly, getting more and more each day, have them from 7am to 9.30pm even on weekends
Michael J Burden Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 I was fed up of running up the garden to answer the phone nearly everyday for some prat on the other end trying to either sell me something or claim something I was either interested in or entitled too. I was getting quicker mind you. I had heard of a system set up to stop them calling and I have done it with success. The phone rings rarely now I think I have no mates at all now. Hear is what I did:- Registering with a preference service A great way to reduce the amount of unsolicited marketing materials you receive is to register with a preference service. Your details will be put on a list and certain companies will not be allowed to send you unsolicited marketing materials. You can do this for emails and telephone calls. It is free to register. Be aware – it takes up to 28 days for your request to be implemented. If, after registering, you receive unsolicited marketing from within the UK, you should complain to the preference service. You should give the name, telephone number and address, if possible, of the company and the date of the call or email. It is illegal for companies to make unsolicited marketing calls to anyone who is registered with the TPS. Telephone Preference Service (TPS) The TPS applies to phone calls only. It doesn't cover texts. Telephone Preference Service TPS Registration Line: 0845 070 0707 Tel: 0845 703 4599Fax: 020 7323 4226 Takes less than 5 minutes and saves all that running. If they still ring I say hang on a minute I will get them for you place the phone near the TV and just leave it. Hope this helps MJB
bibendium Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 For some reason I no longer get bothered with these type of calls., I used to at my previous Address but since moving 18 months ago next to nothing , maybe its a postcode thing?
REDCHEQHEN Posted March 17, 2015 Author Report Posted March 17, 2015 Thanks Michael - but I am registered with the telephone preference service - the majority of these calls are number withheld - though I have reported those within the UK that have identifiable phone numbers The one I asked yesterday who they worked for - I phoned the insurance company last night - and they have lied - the explanation given was plausible These phone calls have increased since my mothers previous home was put on the market through an estate agent and my phone details were used as contact details - I blame them- I think I will change my phone number - I don't get these phone calls on my mobile phone
Michael J Burden Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 Tel numbers are gained and sold on. Have you ever filled in a quiz form at a restaurant or plane questionnaire? I have and put false names down such as Dr or Father and low and behold I started getting silly cold calls for these fictitious people. Also once you hand over your tel number to a loan company or bank or even an estate agent they sell on your details. Insurance accidents are another bug bare of mine. They sell your accident details too!! I answer usually by mistake and place the hand phone near the TV. Or use caller ID and let it just ring out if I do not know the number. If it is important they will ring back. It is a pity I don't speak a foreign language because I would talk back to them in it. MJB
