THE FIFER Posted October 20, 2014 Report Posted October 20, 2014 was on HMS Sheffield 1951, in Bermuda we had to get out to sea as a hurricane was blowing up, we were 10 days at sea in it, and when we got back into Bermuda it was a wreck, boats up the main streets etc, I never thought a ship could fight those massive waves, one of the Royal Marines duty while at sea was Lifebuoy sentry, very sacary in that weather through the night on the poop deck all alone,
paddymac Posted October 20, 2014 Report Posted October 20, 2014 Just hope that any damage is minimal, I have spent this morning putting the perpex windows back up on front of the loft to keep the driving rain out

Fingers crossed this latest crazy weather will not hit the UK too hard.

THE FIFER Posted October 20, 2014 Report Posted October 20, 2014 I guess that's how it got the name 'poop deck' , some old sailors will know about them, the poop deck is technically a stern deck, which in sailing ships was usually elevated as the roof of the stern or "after" cabin, also known as the "poop .,
