anto b Posted September 24, 2014 Report Posted September 24, 2014 Been reading that some well known fanciers on the continentfeed the same mix all week , do you think this would be betterthan breaking down / building up for sprint racing up to 200 miles ?
Wiley Posted September 24, 2014 Report Posted September 24, 2014 IMO no sprint pigeon should be broken down, especially if you want good output of exercise and performance. Years ago when we would break down using depurative mixtures and barley ect, beginning of the week we found their exercise around the loft poorly and to be fair had very little point of having them out until Wednesday onwards. Nowadays we feed heavier on the few days after return, and the birds exercise well every single day. Feeding the same mixture every day would create one thing and that's an ideal digestive system, which I believe to be one of the most important things.
anto b Posted September 24, 2014 Author Report Posted September 24, 2014 Thanks for the reply can i ask what type of mix would you think would be a good one to go with ?

gulkie Posted September 24, 2014 Report Posted September 24, 2014 Any good clean food ,And get the amount right.
dwh Posted September 24, 2014 Report Posted September 24, 2014 any good hp mix + barley + beans and a few seedsthen hopper fed winter mix beans and barley after the moult till 2weeks b4pairing up
Tony C Posted September 24, 2014 Report Posted September 24, 2014 Experiment with something in-between. Add to your race mix a % of barley at the front end of the week, back end of the week add a high fat mix.
anto b Posted September 24, 2014 Author Report Posted September 24, 2014 thanks for the replys ...as a racing mix what would you think of Gerry plus would it be heavy enough ?
Wiley Posted September 24, 2014 Report Posted September 24, 2014 A top flyer in LNRC uses Gerry plus as his base mixture all year round, and those that race in London will you tell you how dangerous this man is from 56 miles to 510 miles. Article is on the fancier below http://www.elimarpigeons.com/MC.htm
Tony C Posted September 24, 2014 Report Posted September 24, 2014 thanks for the replys ...as a racing mix what would you think of Gerry plus would it be heavy enough ?My problem with Gerry is that its all small seeds/grains, the pigeons become picky. My preference is a high carb w/h mix, something with a bit of substance to it. You could add Gerry to this at the back end of the week.
anto b Posted September 24, 2014 Author Report Posted September 24, 2014 cheers for that Tony very interesting read...

Whether they fed before or after flight i couldnt say my friend, however i imagine the use of superstar plus, would be due to the fact the expect their birds to perform from the short races to the long distance races, with no pigeon being specialised for one or the other, but then again that would be a guess again, as its not a question i asked at the time.
