W.D. Posted September 20, 2014 Report Posted September 20, 2014 I see in the BHW that his family of birds are looking for a new home again. Is there no one in Scotland willing or able to bring them back north of the border again? It would be a shame to see them be broken up after all these years.
andy Burgess Posted September 20, 2014 Report Posted September 20, 2014 did read the advert myself early today . would have to have some space and cash to bring in 30 pairs ?
W.D. Posted September 20, 2014 Author Report Posted September 20, 2014 There was no mention of cost in advert, maybe 2 or 3 could share them between them and keep the family going? We pay lots of money for foreign birds which aren't even a proper strain or family, yet these birds have been scoring in the worst weather that Scotland and the channel could throw at them for too many years to mention. Its a shame that they are just going to go the way of a lot of our old families and disappear forever.
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted September 21, 2014 Report Posted September 21, 2014 This is something that interests me, but as you know William I've more birds here than you could shake a stick at lol. There is Jimmy Hamilton breeding through some of our better pigeons(indirectly). I received a grandson of Jimmy's 92 Gold Award winner that has left his mark here. This was through Toddler Brown who was a close friend of Jimmy's. The father of the gift pigeon was one of the outstanding pigeons I have ever seen. I was put into contact with Jimmy shortly before his death. I never met him, but we exchanged letters over a number of months. I still have these, all written in pencil as he found it easier on the old hands.
W.D. Posted September 21, 2014 Author Report Posted September 21, 2014 Hi Lewis, long time since I heard from you.I just think that it's a great pity that we give more credit to the foreign strains than our own ones, how long has Jan Arden been dead? Yet his name still lives on through his birds, but some articles say he didn't have a strain as such. But here in living memory are a family still together! But hey that's how it goes!
