Dalesman Posted August 4, 2014 Report Posted August 4, 2014 I am looking to start pigeon racing and would appreciate some advice regarding lofts.I have access to a plot on our local allotment which will hold a 16 x 8 Loft (max) or alternatively I can set up a smaller loft on an adjacent plot for breeding.Would it be better to buy one loft, sub-divided into 3 divisions (stock, young, racers) or start with a breeding loft (I will only start with 2 pairs of birds). If opting for the smaller breeding loft to begin with, what size should I get ? I only plan to keep a small number of birds.Cost is a factor especially initial outlay so any recommendations regarding suppliers would be helpful.
OLDYELLOW Posted August 4, 2014 Report Posted August 4, 2014 If funds are tight build your own and you can continue to add on to it as your hobby progresses
Dalesman Posted August 4, 2014 Author Report Posted August 4, 2014 If funds are tight build your own and you can continue to add on to it as your hobby progresses Not an option as I don't have the time, skill or tools ! I am happy to buy a decent loft but dont want to buy something that is not suitable. I have a budget between £1000 - £2000 max !

OLDYELLOW Posted August 4, 2014 Report Posted August 4, 2014 Ecco lofts be my next choice after building my own loft http://www.eccosheds.co.uk/tiled.html
Dalesman Posted August 4, 2014 Author Report Posted August 4, 2014 I think I will purchase a stock loft to begin with. I plan to keep a maximum of 5 breeding pairs. What size loft do I need ? Does it need an aviary ? What other requirements do I need for this loft ? Once I am set up I can then give further thought to a sectioned loft for young & race birds.I think I will probably buy from Ecco Sheds so any recommendations from their web-site http://www.eccosheds.co.uk/pigeonlofts.html as to the most suitable loft would be helpful.Thank you !
BIGPETE Posted August 5, 2014 Report Posted August 5, 2014 There is a guy on ebay who sells good new lofts. Have a seRch on there and he always has 5-6 types listed. He can modify to order and prices are very good and good quality builds.

Dalesman Posted August 10, 2014 Author Report Posted August 10, 2014 Is it worth getting a stock loft with fitted aviary to begin with ? Budget has to be significantly reduced ! I would like to keep 4 pairs. How big does the loft with aviary need to be ? I would really like to get started but don't want to suddenly find that I can not afford to keep the birds properly. At what age do YB need to move from the stock loft . Sorry for all the questions I'm just trying to find the best way of starting off ! Realistically what budget do I need to get started ?
