Guest Owen Posted December 20, 2013 Report Posted December 20, 2013 I will tell you how I do it and it works really well for me.Run the hen with the Bull every day until she lays the first egg. Take the egg away and replace it with a dummy egg and take the partition away that separates the feeder pair. The feeder cock can get a bit bolshie so you need to remove the egg to protect it from him horsing about. When the hen lays the second egg replace the first one and away you go.The length of time the hen spends with the Bull is the length of time it takes for him to tread her. If you keep the Bull isolated from all other pigeons and prepared him by making sure he is fit and healthy the mating will be pretty quick. You can remove the hen straight after she has been mated and replace her with another hen but after the Bull has mated a number of hens he might slow down. If you want to mate the hens with the Bull a second time make sure you take the youngsters and the hen away at 14 days. Put the hens and the nest pans on the floor of the young bird loft and the hens will do a cracking job of rearing the youngsters. When the youngsters have been weaned replace the hen with the feeder cock and off you go again. I have used 10 hens twice with a Bull and have managed to get close on 40 youngsters which were all half brothers and sisters in two rounds. This is the fastest way to improve your pigeons that I know because you can use more than one Bull and you only have to spend on one really top cock or two at the most. In four years you can have a top team of birds which will be a true family.

Guest Owen Posted December 20, 2013 Report Posted December 20, 2013 It is true that the situation has to be set up before you decide to operate the Bull system. You need to find 10 cocks to act as feeders and 10 decent hens to bred the youngsters. I did it because I was fed up with being a second rate flyer. It worked in my case.

geordie1234 Posted December 20, 2013 Report Posted December 20, 2013 Saw a video of jos thone he put a cock with 4 hens in a section with 4 boxes and let them get on with it
Guest Owen Posted December 21, 2013 Report Posted December 21, 2013 WalterI think it is about how serious a person is about winning pigeon races. Some will keep pigeons as pets while others, which includes me, will not be satisfied with being also rans. In my early days in this sport I thought I knew how to set about achieving success only to be disappointed on a regular basis. I had spent my money to buy what I thought were the best birds and worked hard training them but I couldn't win much at all. The odd 3rd or 6th but that was about it. I think that the worst thing was when I had sent to an open race full of anticipation only to be told that so and so had clocked several birds while I was stuck there without seeing a feather except for pigeons flying past on their way home. Perhaps it is something to do with my personality but there was no way I was going to be able to live with that sort of thing. I did all the usual things like reading the print off anything I could get my hands on and trying to buy even more expensive birds. Eventually more by accident than skill I produced some decent birds from a pair of birds I had bought. The hen was from Fountainhead a daughter of The Yorkshireman and a young cock I bought in a sale from van Rijn from Holland. One particular young cock from this pair proved to be an outstanding bird. After that and with the motivation that I had running through me from my good cock I got down to business and started to take a completely different attitude to the whole thing. I changed the loft, altered the way I fed the birds, arrived at a completely different way of training and introduced progeny testing. It was then that I realised that the good cock had been turning in his performances in spite of my management. When I sat down and thought it through I could see that the root of my problems had been my own fault and the cock was in fact better than I had first thought because if I had been better at my job he could have done even better. It was then I decided to learn how to operate the Bull System. Mike Armitage from The Lion Brewery, London explained the system to me when I telephoned him. I will always be indebted to him for his help and advice. The good cock was my first Bull and boy didn't he do a great job. My results jumped and I became a winner of pigeon races which was brilliant. In the end, as is usual in these things, my motivation matched the better results and as the results got better and better so did my effort and thirst for more of the same. These days I am a very lazy Fancier but my birds still win races but my attitude these days is to reduce my work with the birds to a minimum. At the end of the day after making a commitment to putting in the effort to make the Bull System work for me it has all been very worth while.
