oh i have a cause to dismiss it sammy as i was very much into eye sign in my youth and have won my fair share of eye sign classes and have had years compairing birds with so called eye sign to birds with no eye sign and found birds that have it dont breed any more winners than birds that dont and dont win any more races thats one point and a fact in my loft not a theory 2nd point is simple why are the eyesign men not knocking the s t out us if they can pick birds that can fire out winners why because they cant thats why next point the top so called eyesign men disagree with each other on which eyes are best how can you follow a theory that the experts cant agree on facts is what im looking for anyone can give you an opinion the word theory is nothing more than someones idea to explain something its not a fact its an opinion and opinions vary from person to person like i could say birds that have two white flights on the wing and a white spot on its head will fill your loft with winners has as much credence as saying all birds with green eyes breed winners i have watched pigeons that win lots of firsts in eyesign shows that have won nothing and breed nothing so someones getting it wrong and filling doo mens heads with unproven opinionated rubbish i can tell you which kind of eyes breed good birds in my family and if there healthy but cant say the same in anyone elses birds because all eyes can breed winners and all eyes can win races fact nottheory the basket tells me not the eye and the great jeff cooper after years of study thinks the same if anyone thinks because they win a few eyesign shows there going to have a loft of winners there in for a shock and that my opinion on eyesign a bit of fun in the winter and day out

Walter and I may be off topic but at least we are not leading a novice up the wrong path. I often think that pigeon racing is made complicated by the theories, fads and fancies that people like to get involved with. It is the same with the concoctions that are sold to make your pigeons into winners.

To me pigeon racing is simple. I don't use theories or concoctions. I value my pigeons on the basis of what they can do rather than trying to find a fast track to success.

Guess what! in spite of my neglectful ways by not giving my birds the latest concoction and neglecting to look at them in the light of the latest theory they win races all the time.

Now if memory serves me correctly Para frae Kirkconnel won his section with the scottish national with a one eyed pigeon to me that is a true sign of eye sign that also blew the theory away that they only need the two

If you can try and get a hold of Old Hand's book on it or some of the old pictorials Professor Optic used to write in, it's a place to start.

I can't remember the name of the other one I used to read, think it may have been Bill Cairney??

read them all rooster and im not knocking it m8 i just found after about 20 years of study it proved nothing to me in my loft an interesting theory nothing more imo

Knew a pigeon fancier a number of year back was right into

Eye sign he done a lot of showing and judging couldn't fly a

Kite?.i also am not knocking it ,all I look for in the eye is

Health the same as your own doctor would do when attending

Him.

Well I have never, never handled or have owned a channel pigeon that scores at 500mile and has poor balance with its tail in the air!!!!! Now these birds can look a million dollars but in my experience are not up to it. They might be okay for 200 mile stuff and indeed I have won with a couple of cocks that were not the strongest in the back but could perform at that distance.

So HANDLING? just rubbish?? Dont think so

Aye you're not alone there Walter.

Racing Novice obviously has some interest in it or wouldn't have started the thread.

Was just suggesting these as they are things that I read. Not necessarily with a few to practising it, but just to see what it is people are looking at/for when they refer to eyesign.

I've seen and heard enough from a couple of the best and most successful fanciers I am ever likely to meet that confirms,to me, looking into a pigeon's eye is not a complete waste of time.

Who in their right mind would pick a fancier who could not fly a kite to judge at their show....?

As a complete novice to racing pigeons, i am interested to learn as much as i can in all aspects of the sport.

This thread seems to have hit on a topic that some people believe in and others dont, but everyone is entitled to an opinion be it for or against and it is good for a novice like myself to hear both sides of the story. I still do not fully understand eyesign or what to look for and think it will take a good few years to have an honest opinion for myself, so i will keep an open mind on the subject.Thankyou all for your answers and opinions i am sure i will have a lot more questions before the start of the new season. Hope you all have a great season next year which ever races your in, for now i will just enjoy my pigeons and look forward to racing against some of you in the yorkshire middle route combine.

All the best R.N.
