Guest ConsettFlyer12 Posted October 18, 2013 Report Posted October 18, 2013 So after having a short youngbird season only sending to about 4 races then stopping im racing them as yearlings in april, some have not yet been raced but been took training and had experience, would they be alright to send to yearling race ad the first ob race is the first youngbird race. When do people start training the birds up into the first race?
Guest Dorset-lad Posted October 18, 2013 Report Posted October 18, 2013 Just be aware of the cold east winds in april, it wont take long to wipe yearlings out, myself personly would rather jump them 100/150 odd mile to a race on better days than send them to the early IF cold east wind races.PATIENCE Dont be afraid to jump them in better weather you will be pleasntly surprised what you could end up with and with confidance.Just my opinion Training pick good days, again giving them confidance, hurt them in the early days and say good by to a lot of thembefore you know it.Just my opinion, everyone to their own. Brian PS forgot to say look after them as yearlings you will have a good bunch of 2 yearolds more mature
Guest Dorset-lad Posted October 18, 2013 Report Posted October 18, 2013 Not sure if this will give you a little bit of guidence but worth a read http://www.pipa.be/en/newsandarticles/pigeonandloft/how-give-your-summer-youngsters-all-chances-yearling-next-season-par-0
Tony C Posted October 18, 2013 Report Posted October 18, 2013 some good advice there I'll second that.
ForestForever74 Posted October 18, 2013 Report Posted October 18, 2013 Yeah I liked that information. As we have the biggest team of yearlings we have had for next year it would be wise to continue with our levels of patience. Its so easy to get caught up in wanting to compete and do well but they will be different birds as two year olds.
