did any one see countryfile today if not it was about the red kite, this farmer started feeding 2 red kites then 6 then at the finish up he was feeding 600

they were coming from all over the world to see this spectacular display, it takes quarter a ton of chicken a week to feed them, so how many will be there next year what happens when there free meals dries up as there wont be enough carrion to feed that lot they will probably start feeding on other things like maybe the pigeons

Red Kites are no risk to Pigeons at all, like you've stated already they feed on carrion and have not got the skills to catch and kill Pigeons, The most harm they might cause is to scare the birds off the loft when flying over which has happened to me once a few years ago.

So I think we should concentrate on what to do with the other BOPS which are our main concern.

Paullock.

you could be right in what you are saying, who would have thought the little sparrow hawk would kill a pigeon, once food becomes scarce and not a lot of little birds about it becomes survival time the same thing i am talking about withe red kite not enough carrion to feed them all, so they have got to get fed i will let you think for yourself what will happen

Well if they go for pigeons I hope it will be the feral type because those filthy little devils are spreading disease far and wide. Not to mention the terrible image it gives racing pigeons.

red kites wont kill birds for that too happen a change in the species would have to take place for that to happen you would have be taking about 1000s of years of evolution

sparrowhawks have been killing pigeons and birds bigger than sparrows for god only knows how long

wasnt alive then :emoticon-0136-giggle: :emoticon-0136-giggle: so be impossible too see them

just because there was not as many as them around does not mean they did not take pigeons :emoticon-0140-rofl:

It was written in 1870 that "The Sparrowhawk is perhaps only the true enemy of the game-preserver; though at the same time it is probable that if the good and evil it does were justly weighed, the balance would be in favour of the hawk, its favourite quarry being the Woodpigeon,

all the way back 1870 unless you were talking about 1600s lol
