Guest stb- Posted August 11, 2013 Report Posted August 11, 2013 i put a link in my above post by colin walker there may have been something else at play in your case stb no m8 it was the moxydectin for deffo as it was only the young uns under the race birds i done as they had a few lice on , the stock birds didint get it and there young uns were all fine in the next section , i dont know if it was the exstreem heat a few weeks back and the birds drank more than they should have but the young uns were all flooping about 2 hours after being feed and watered
Guest stb- Posted August 11, 2013 Report Posted August 11, 2013 i put a link in my above post by colin walker there may have been something else at play in your case stb i took this from a poisons link m8 which i read up on after the squabs died . There is a big safety factor in that an overdose can be tolerated to a point. But I would have said the five mls as a maximun for even a big goose is enough and safe. Don't dose the young birds. They wont have a significant load of worms at this point and young animals dont tolerate moxidectin as well as older birds.
William Reid Posted August 11, 2013 Report Posted August 11, 2013 Administer. Moxidectin wormer if feeding 7 day squab ?Yes no problem .Treats hairworm and roundworm and the dose = 5ml per one litre of water for 24 hours . And can be used when breeding ,racing, and moulting .and for best result birds should be treated 3 weeks later J.M.O.
ovy1255 Posted August 11, 2013 Report Posted August 11, 2013 was always instructed to treat twice to stop a reinfestation and to be done within 14days to be effective.some wormers are covered under the small animals regs and as such can be bought over the counter at a pet shop or corn merchant.

Guest stb- Posted August 11, 2013 Report Posted August 11, 2013 where u get moxi from stbfrom a vet m8 , regarldless of where it came from it killed the babies as they were lifless in hours , the young in the nest 15 days and older were fine , as i posted when i looked up toxicology on moxi it said its not safe with baby or young birds although it has a high tolerance level in old birds . I would now never use it again with babies in the nest its not worth the risk

Guest stb- Posted August 12, 2013 Report Posted August 12, 2013 (edited) can u send me the link as all my reading says there should be no problem at all and i have done it lots without any problems it would make a big difference where you got it as moxi comes in different strength but im taking the vet would know the doesage i dont use moxi in the water i use the stuff they use for sheep same thing just different brand nameIf you dont use it in water how can you justify saying its safe for babies . If your putting it on the adults skin you are then not adminestering it oraly so its not feed dirrect to babies . It works by macking the worms go doozy and relase there grip , if it does that to the worms im now conviced reading more that it made the young ones go doozy whichthen led to death .It was in the water i use 5ml to 2 literes it said . most links i found say its safe with young ones but on a toxoligy site it said it was safe but should not be used on young pigeons as they had a low tolerance too it compared to old birds ,will see if i can find it again . do you put the drops on the skin ??, you have to remember a full grown pigeon is at least 50 times heavier than a babby a few days old and if the dose is 5 miles to 2 litres it could be far to high for a aby as the parents are pumping the medicated water straight into the young birds .
